I just completed my Bachelors Degree from Excelsior and will in all probability be enrolling in the masters program at CSU. Like Excelsior, CSU is also not a Title IV school preventing me from obtaining any federal student loans and such.

I am looking for any alternatives, including scholarships to help ease the financial burdens ahead. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!!

Here's what is on the site:

Student Financial Assistance for DETC Institutions

Institutions accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council are eligible to apply for student financial assistance through the following organizations:

    - DANTES
    - Montgomery G.I. Bill
    - Workforce Development

    DANTES

Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES)
    Education Services Program
    DANTES, Code 20 H
    Pensacola, FL 32509- 5243

DANTES' role is to assist the Services with providing high quality and valuable educational opportunities for Service members, DoD personnel, and family members; and to assist personnel in achieving professional and personal educational objectives. This role includes the consolidated management of certain programs to prevent duplication of effort among the Services. Through its activities, DANTES supports recruitment, retention, and transition efforts of the Department of Defense.

For a DETC-accredited institution to have its degree programs or courses listed in the DANTES Catalog of Nationally Accredited Distance Learning Programs, the school must enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with DANTES. For information about the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding and to start the affiliation process, contact Kathy Westlake (see above).

    Montgomery G.I. Bill

For an overview of the "Tuition Benefits for Veterans an Service Members" please click here. The Montgomery G.I. Bill (MGIB) is established under Chapter 30 (active duty) of Title 38, U.S. Code and Chapter 1606 (selected reserve) of Title 10. It provides educational assistance for individuals who first entered active duty after June 30, 1985.

An accredited member of DETC may participate in having its courses/programs reviewed and approved by the appropriate State Approving Agency. A State Approving Agency or Department of Veterans Administration (DVA) must approve each program/course offered by your institution.

If you are interested in being approved for the training of veterans contact the State Approving Agency in the state where your school is located. A school offering distance education programs must meet these basic federal requirements: A school must-

    be accredited
be able to show continued operation for two years
have at least 50 percent of the students in the program must take six months or more to complete the program.
The State Approving Agency (SAA) will explain the requirements for the approval of programs offer by correspondence, distance learning or independent study. In addition to federal requirements, there may be additional state requirements for approval.

A list of the State Approving Agencies can be found at http://www.saavetrain.org. Although the approval process differs from state-to-state, it usually involves submission of the school's catalog and a detailed outline of the program to the SAA. In addition, the SAA may do an on-site visit to verify the information.
