    Hi there!

Can anyone speak as to the difference between the agencies that CHEA recognizes vs. the ones that the US DOE recognize? I recall that Gregg once wrote a rather detailed post about this and I was hoping someone else might be able to weigh in on this?

    Thanks!

Anyone care to comment on this? Or anyone have any ideas as to who might be able to answer this question?

    Thanks!

Elearners.com should pay degreeinfo members a commission for each individual response given. ;) Do I get a commission?

    Just teasing :D

The U.S. Department of Education no longer recognizes specialized accreditations such as ABET or NAIT. CHEA now holds the reponsiblitiy for specialty accreditation recognition.

However, this does not mean that the U.S. Department of Education will never recognize specialty accreditations again.
The U.S. Department of Education recognizes programs as they deem necessary for recognition.

The U.S. Department of Education discontinued specialty accredition recognition when ABET refused to comply with certain regulations dictated
    to them.

I don't claim to be an expert but NY State Board of Regents appears in the DOE list under "other". I don't see them in the CHEA list.
