Nobody else have Microsoft certs or cisco certs? I will post this tread on the IT forum also.

When I was going to ITT tech, they actually did their electronics certification through the ETA, as an IT student, I could sit the CST and CNST, but never got the chance. Guess I do not have to now.

You are wasting your money. Check it out.
Most businesses never heard of these certs. Comptia is well known.

I read about this program last spring. I agree that it's a waste of time and money, an attempt by a much lesser known accreditor to build some name recognition. This will do nothing for your resume.

The ETA actually has much clout in telecom. They are the official certification body of Motorola. the USMSS (The Nationwide Association of Authorized Motorola Service Stations) (BTW, I am a Cellular Service Tech, so that means a lot to me :))

The ETA is a well known electronics certification association. Maybe they are just bigger in my field, Telecommunications, than IT or IS.

I also work in telecom, for a national pre-WiMAX wireless network.

This might, *might* be an ok cert for someone only to a field tech position, but that's setting the bar (and wage) very low. Personally, I'd rather see field techs achieve NARTE certification.

Our organization would encourage someone to skip this and get A+/Network+ followed by a Linux or Cisco cert.

Are you enjoying working for Sprint?

I've been in Telecommunication since 1973. I also have my MCSE, CCNA, and 4 comptias (A+, Network+, Security+, Project+), I'm also currently working on my CCNP.

What you're asking is apples and oranges.

Yes, ETA has alot of clout in the telecom industry. But it does not have more clout than Comptia in the computer industry. Believe me when I say, when it come to computer, having an A+, Network+, etc.. certifications, Comptia will always trump ETA.

Yea, I understand. In the computer industry Comptia, Microsoft, Cisco, Sun, Etc are the premier Certs.

    I agree with you there.
