Only the best and the brightest MBA grads need apply. Pretty much means top-10 B school, top performance once there, great pre-MBA track record, being of the right age group and experience level. Very hard to break into IB. I doubt 1 in 100,000 DL MBA students would even be considered.

    IB?

    In a word.....................No.

Read " The accidental investment banker " and " The running of the Bulls ' and you will get a clear idea of what IB and Consulting for that matter are all about.

IB's come from the top 10 MBA schools and sometimes the top 10 Law schools.

I worked at Morgan Stanley but only got in due to my experience COUPLED with my education.

Moving away from the specifics of IB

...and toward a more general discussion of what the MBA provides you, this quote from the article repeats what I've gleaned from many sources: the utility of a particular MBA is directly proportional to the strength of the network one builds during the process.

Although M.B.A. coursework is worthwhile, the contacts you gain in the field and with alumni at your school may prove more valuable. Above all, though, it will take hard work to make the move. You can't just say, 'I'll go to business school, punch my ticket and get a job,' " says Ms. Bialecki.

To repeat, an MBA is about the alumni network. This, more than any other factor, is pushing me away from considering the online route for an MBA.

Having an MBA will increase your odd's of getting into Inv. Banking. Never Say never. I understand that most IB jobs are given to top program grads. An MBA could get you a closely related job at an Investment bank. You could impress (ass kiss) someone and maybe get in. You never know! good luck!

This really applies to just about any advanced degree. To get a decent job, you really can't look at it as a matter of "punching your ticket".

There are tons of wannabees out there who went to school, got an MBA/MSIT/Med/PhD/EdD/etc. and can't understand why they don't have the job they thought they had "earned".
