I am new but like the discussions.Does anyone have any information on http://advancedu.org ?
They offer several degrees and I would like to know if they are legitimate and legal.

Legal, possibly. Legitimate, not an iota. Their degrees are completely worthless.

Post your interests and you'll likely get many suggestions for legitimate, accredited options.

Thank you. I have an Associates degree and am about 2 semesters away from my bachelors degree in communications. Work and family hinder my seeking a traditional degree, but would really like to finish. Any ideas?

Beyond any doubt, totally fraudulent. Not only do they print wortthless (and rather ugly) diplomas for the their own made-up school names, but they are one of a growing number that will print you a diploma saying "Harvard University" or any of a great number of real schools. Back-dating of diplomas: of course.

For the record, since people do search thie forum for school names, here are the "in house" fakes they are selling.

There are many hundreds of properly-accredited colleges and universities with 100% nonresident Bachelor's degrees. Excelsior, Edison, and Charter Oak are probably the most-often mentioned here, and probably the largest -- but it often pays to shop around. Since you're about two semesters away from the Bachelor's, it is conceivable that you could finish up by taking (for instance) as little as two equivalency exams (Excelsior gives up to 30 semester units for each 3 1/2 hour GED; six units for each 90-minute CLEP).

    The new fakes, then:

New Academy of the Arts · American West University · Capital University of Arts & Technology · Saint Regis University · Blackstone University · Northwest United
University · Heartland University · InTech University of Engineering & Science · Saint Lourdes University · Saint Lourdes Graduate Institute · Micronom Technical
Academy · Chalise Postgraduate University · Bell State College · Bell State Graduate Institute · New Capital University · New Capital Graduate Institute · Davison University, Davison Graduate Institute · Eucharist Archdiocese University · Eucharist Graduate Institute

Further, for the record, the website of this phony is registered to F R James, in that new major university town* of Missoula, Montana.

*Small joke. Columbia Commonwealth U, formerly Columbia Pacific U, is also there.

Thank you for your information. I bought your guide several years ago.I did not want to waste my time and money on a bogus degree.

  7. You have *many* options for getting an undergraduate degree from a school with recognized accreditation.

First, since you have an Associates degree and are "about 2 semesters away from my bachelors degree in communications" -- I'd look into options from your current school. Do they have an external degree program? Do they offer any independent study, correspondence study, distributed study, telecourses, etc.?

If not, then I'd look into some of the schools most likely to accept your credits in transfer toward their degree -- the "big three" most often mentioned are Charter Oak State College, Excelsior College, and Thomas Edison State College. See http://distancelearn.about.com/cs/specificschools/ for links to specific school policies.
