I received an associates in applied science degree from TESC and sent my transcript to COSC to have the credits applied to a Bachelor's degree. COSC notified me that they would not accept my credits from TESC that were FEMA unless I sent them via Fredricks College. Has anyone else had a problem with or have transferred in FEMA credits to COSC?

Interesting -I just got an e-mail from them last week saying they do accept TESC FEMA credits because I asked about using my 40 FEMA EMI courses for a 2nd B.S degree in Individualized Studies with a concentration in Emergency Disaster Management. So if they don't take them or only take them after one has paid 60 bucks a pop that's will impact me applying. They have been good about answering my questions - saying the degree memtioned above would be possible. They couldn't say whether the FEMA EMI courses 200 or above would be considered lower or upper level until I enrolled.
There is a post here where Excelsior would not accept FEMA EMI credits from TESC and the student appealed -stating they were declining to accept RA credits and won his case. You could argue that with COSC. I'm going to-esp. since they've said they would.
    SEE POST AT:
His argument was: from Michal GATES post at:

    * TESC had evaluated the FEMA courses and issued the college credit, so it was not transfer credit.
    * That Excelsior was now rejecting Regionally Accredited credits.
    * That Frederick Community College has not assumed any official responsibility for evaluation of courses from FEMA.
    * That FEMA cannot pick one college as an agent, but advertises all colleges giving credit, that they know about.
    * That FEMA has a disclaimer on the link to Frederick stating it does not endorse the site.
    * That any college could issue college credit on their own for the FEMA courses.

Thank you for you response. The person I have been in contact with is Paul @ COSC. I was told twice that he would not accept the credits unless he receives a transcript from Fredericks College. I have been enrolled in this college for several months. In fact, I am taking 10 credit courses right now with them. I also told Paul that I received a degree in Emergency Management from TESC and that it was the line of work that I am in. I hope I find someone who they have taken credit from.

Any reason you wouldn't just get the BA from TESC?

I had already paid a fee to Charter Oak for enrollment and then noticed that I actually had the requirements for their Associates of Applied Science degree so I enrolled with them and took the degree. Considering the FEMA courses, I am closer to receiving a Bachelor degree via Charter. I had already gotten financial aid and strated taking courses from COSC for this fall. We'll if I cannot transcript these credits, I may have to go the route of TESC. I have to say that I was very impressed with TESC. They have very good customer service.

I sent a letter to the Dean and Registrar with transcripts to ask if It was possible to earn a 2nd Bachelor's degree in Individualized studies with a concentration in Emergency Disaster Management
based on 38 post Bachelor degree credits in EDM listed on my TESC credit bank transcript. I argued that Excelsior and other schools accepted them and they were losing students. I received the good and bad news. After review they said they would allow me to enroll for a 2nd Bachelor's degree and WOULD accept my FEMA/EMI credits listed on the transcript. The "bad" news is that although they would accept them they would all be considered lower level and that I would need to complete an additional 18 hours of related upper level credit to constitute the concentration.
They would allow me 2 UL credits for the Fire Service Q courses.
I don't think I'll enroll but I'm posting this to let others know that they were going to accept my TESC Credit Bank credits without going through Frederick Community College as lower level credit. They have refused this in the past . So if you argue your case you may get these credits into Charter Oak .
