Does anyone know where I can take some inexpensive online general ed. courses? Preferably 6-10 weeks. RA or NA is ok coz I am in an RA school that accepts NA. Thanks
Check out Lousiana State University. They have some of the least expensive college credit courses I've found so far. Generally, tuition is $229 per 3 hour course. That's for the entire course, not the per credit hour amount. http://www.is.lsu.edu/ Also, many other schools are listed at the Dantes Catalogs site. http://www.dantescatalogs.com/DISC/Institutions.asp I have also heard that Penn Foster offers some courses at reasonable rates. I have never tried them, so I can't tell you anything about their classes. They are associated with Education Direct. http://www.ed2go.com/cgi-bin/oic3/newcourses.cgi?name=wfd Good luck,
USFire Administration Hi, Do a search on the above site for Q118 and Q 318. They may fill a nitch in your transcript. Classification needs to be made on a American Counsel of Education transcript. Hope this helps. Hille
Clovis Community College www.clovis.edu Fort Hays State www.fhsu.edu You'll be able to finish a Penn Foster general ed course in a few weeks if you apply yourself...otherwise you may be looking at 8 to 10 weeks. Pug
Not quite. They ARE Education Direct. ED changed their name a few months ago to Penn Foster College. I believe the cost per tuition hour for their courses is about $55, so the price can't be beat. It is difficult to enroll in individual courses, because they really try to push the entire degree program, but it can be done. Do a search for "Education Direct" and you'll find a previous thread on how to enroll in indivicual Penn Foster courses.
Thanks guys for the great info. I called penn-foster today and they are going to send me some info on their individual courses and how to register. Does anyone know how there tests are done? I know they have proctored exams but can I take the rest of the tests online?
Yes, the other tests are untimed and unproctored. Just one thing. Make sure you are taking the courses that would normally appear in a degree program, rather than the ones you see when you click on the link above. The ed2go courses are considered continuing education courses and do not grant you any college credit.
RA or NA is ok coz I am in an RA school that accepts NA. Can you please tell us which school it is! Thank you Much, Pilot
Yes, the other tests are untimed and unproctored but the grading scale is rightfully tougher than most. 94+ is an A. Anything below a 75 is failing. If you fail an online exam you get one chance to take it over but the highest grade awarded for a re-test is a 75. I did this recently because I did the exam on paper, then entered the answers online. Somewhere along the line I lost my place between the paper and online numbering sequence and failed the test as a result. They make you wait 5 days before testing again. After 5 days I tested again, this time being very careful to NOT lose my place. I scored the hghest allowable of 75. It brought down my overall lesson average WAY down to an 89...all because of a careless mistake...so be careful and DOUBLE CHECK your answers before hitting the SUBMIT EXAM button. Pug
Actually, Clovis Community College offers courses online for $110 per 3-hour course...about $36 per hour. That's the best price I've found. But their courses follow a semester schedule...big disadvantage if you're in a hurry. Pug
I didn't mean to imply that there are LITERALLY no cheaper courses out there, just that it is cheaper than most. Sheesh!
Re: Re: Short General Ed. Courses I am getting my BS in MIS from National-Louis University. I have an associates degree from ashworth college and most of my courses transfered as electives so I am in need of some general ed. which I will get from Penn- Foster hopefully!! Thanks!
