    Hi all,

I am currently looking into an Associates degree likely in English Lit. I would be interested to hear from anyone that has completed a similar degree through one of the big three. Any info on how to design my degree plan would be a great help.

    Thanks to all.

Are you starting from scratch? Do you have good test taking skills?

The Excelsior AA is going to be primarily core general ed courses and not so much lit. In fact, most literature classes beyond the sophomore survey are upper level courses applicable to the BA more than the AA.

If you're starting from scratch and you think you have good test taking skills, go for all of the CLEP General Exams (except comp) and see where you stand.

Each exam is 6 hours for a total 30 or half of the AA. Excelsior won't take the CLEP General English Comp for the written English requirement so if you wanna do Excelsior substitute the CLEP subject Analyzing and Interpreting Literature for the CLEP General English Composition and use that 6 hours.

Try this for a start to see where you stand:

CLEP Subject Analysing and Interpreting Literature (6)
    CLEP General Humanities (6)
CLEP General Social Sciences and History (6)
    CLEP General College Mathematics (6)
    CLEP General Natural Sciences (6)

That'd be 30 hours of general ed. and equal to the first year of a four-year program and take care of the Excelsior core and put a serious dent in the BA core.

Then for a concentration in literature you could do:

ECE - English Composition (6) written English requirement
    CLEP Subject English Lit (6)
    CLEP Subject American Lit (6)
DL school of your choice genre lit (12)

That'd about do an Excelsior AA with serious work in Lit. that could carry on to a BA in Lit.

Thanks for your fast reply. I think I am starting from scratch and yes, I believe I could pass the tests. I am 46 and have two college certificates but not sure that they would transfer. One is in Auto Body Repair and the other is an Engineering Technology certificate. Any help on study material would also be greatly appreciated. I have looked into the CLEP site so I would download the test preps and order the study guides but if you know of any good study material, your help is appreciated.

    Thanks again.
