Help! I’m a little gun shy.

    OK,

I failed my last 2 DSST exams. I’m a little discouraged because of it. And, I’m waiting for my evaluation from Excelsior. As far as I can see, I will still need some lower level “Arts & Sciences” credits. I’m thinking about taking the following CLEP exams. Tell me what you think.

    Analyzing & Intrep. Lit 6
    Micro 3
    Macro 3
History of the United States I 3

    15 Credits

What should I use to study?

I took Analyzing & Intrep. Lit and History of the United States I and used the REA Study Guides. The lit was not easy (others say it was) and the History was easy.

    Good luck-

Analyzing and Interpreting Lit for the most part simply requires that you read a passage and then answer a question about it. You'll need to know a little about literary terms and styles but mostly you must read the whole passage and the question.

Micro and Macro Economics aren't going to be exams that involve material you've gained through life experience. You will need to understand the underlying concepts and it will require some preparation. It's textbook stuff and you'll need any good college micro and macro textbook to do well.

US History I is pre-Civil War. Start with Jamestowne 1607 and work up to Charleston SC 1861 without spending all of your time in the American Revolution and don't forget such important events as the War of 1812. This one is very event and person specific. The Social Science/History (6) general is not as event and people specific as it is generalist. I found the Standard Deviants videos and alot of History Channel useful for these.

    Good luck!

I found lit to be very easy. I did not study anything at all. It was pretty much reading stuff and then answering questions about what you read.
