What's up with the names of legitimate Universities on the AOAEX accreditation membership page? http://www.aoaex.org/ful_acc_mem.html
Nothing prevents a bogus accrediting agency from accrediting legitimate schools against their will (and without their prior knowledge) to make their accreditation appear legitimate. A list of good schools with some bad schools mixed in makes the bad schools look better. Rich Douglas
Here's a quote from a lesson in Dakota State University's course on Policy & Management for Distance Ed:
The bad guys use the same deplorable tactic with alumni, too. The phony Columbia State University listed two Nobel laureates plus Jonas Salk as alumni. City University Los Angeles listed Coretta Scott King, Muhammad Ali, and Ethel Kennedy, among others. It is conceivable they may actually have sent a diploma to such people, and if they didn't get a rejection, went ahead and used the name. Even rejection might not be enough. As I recall, Pablo Neruda rejected the honorary doctorate Harvard bestowed on him, and Harvard got a court decision that said, in effect, their degrees were permanent; that Neruda might choose not to use it, but Harvard could continue to list him as an honoree.
