TESC awards credits for certifications, including the US CPA (up to 33) and the CCP (up to 21), according to its website.

TESC does not provide academic advising before enrolment. (I enquired -- Understandable, but is a disservice!) Hence, I am confused and in the dark.

Question: Has anyone received TESC credits for the CPA and/or CCP certifications? If so, for what courses was credit awarded?

I am a CPA in a Western state but want to acquire a NY license. I lack four basic/intermediate courses to meet the NY requirements. If TESC awards credit for them on the basis of my license, I would not have to take them. (As an aside from the FEMA threads, would Excelsior then accept the TESC credit for these courses?)

    Thanks on all counts!

    Credit banking TESC

Hello, Wondering if credit banking at TESC would do the trick. I also would check my previous thread on Heritage Institute. There are independent study courses that may fit some requirements. Hille

I did this two years ago, with my CPA from Delaware which I had qualified for with a previous associate's degree. While I forget the exact distribution of credits, I do remember getting the full 33 credits, including the following:

    Principles of financial accounting (3)
    Principles of managerial accounting (3)
    Business law (3)
    Intermediate accounting I (3)
    Intermediate accounting II (3)
    Advanced financial accounting (3)
    Cost accounting (3)
    Federal income taxation (3)
    Auditing (3)

3 of the remaining 6 credits were probably for accounting systems, and I honestly cannot remember the last 3. Clearly you will get four basic/intermediate courses out of this. It surprises me that you are missing these courses and yet meet the other requirements of NY, however, as I would expect that these courses would generally be prerequisites for most of the others. I recommend that you review carefully the NY educational requirements. NY is infamously strict in what they will and will not allow, including upper-level requirements, minimum grade average, and order of courses taken. Good luck!

    Thanks, StamfordCanuck!

I attempted to send you a Private Message, but you have your preferences set not to receive them.

Did you credit bank (as Hille helpfully suggested above) or did you enroll in TESC?

Once again, thank you for you assistance.

[By the way, I received my license in a state that, at that time, only required a certain number of semester hours in business administration subjects. Since Econ counted as one of these, as an Econ major, I had no difficulty meeting the education reqs. Hence, my anomalous, unusual education.]

    You're welcome, CPA.

Although TESC does not offer academic advising before enrollment, they do (or at least did recently) offer a pre-enrollment evaluation service for a fee of two or three hundred dollars. (The fee can later be applied towards tuition and fees if you decide to enroll within 90 days.) This is not well known, as they do not promote it. But I'm sure you could get the details by picking up the phone and speaking to a TESC advisor.

I went this route and found it to be of great value, as this was the way I found out how the 33 credits for my CPA would be credited, as well as the 60 credits from my previous associate's degree.

After doing this, I found that I needed about 30 more credits, mostly general education courses. I immediately started to test these out through CLEP and DANTES. Meanwhile, I enrolled at TESC (as opposed to credit banking) because I knew I would be able to finish everything well within one year. To complete degree requirements, I needed two TECEPs, "Business and Society" and "Business Policy". These tests were challenging but fair. I passed every test I took the first time. Today, my BSBA diploma hangs proudly on my office wall at work, right beside my CPA certificate.
