I am also waiting to hear from Excelsior. I don't have alot of credits from the community college. In fact, my credits are over 30 years old and none of it pertain to the Major that's I'm seeking. (BS in Information Technology). I do however, have Certifications in A+, Network+, Security+, Project+, MCSE and CCNA. I'm not sure how much credits I will get for these Certs. Are there anyone out there that have an ideal of what I'm about to get myself into. After reading several materials on people testing out, I'm hoping I may be able to test out as much as I can. Any suggestion?

Well, take a look at the graduation requirements for your desired degree. Then, find out about the transferrability of your old cc credits. Ask about the credit given for your IT certs. Then, for the remaining credits needed, look up relevant ACT-PEP (Regents/Excelsior), CLEP, DANTES/DSST, and TECEP exams at the Whole Ed Catalog http://home.earthlink.net/~hwatts/edu/cbe.html . Good luck!

For what it's worth, Excelsior transferred my 17 year old credits no problem so I don't think time is going to be a huge issue (17 years vs. 30 years)...but I could be mistaken.

I would assume they would grant credit for the certs too.

...and at the risk of sounding silly - you may also want to consider a Masters IT program like Aspen that requires no BA/BS...and gives credit for your MCSE. 9 classes for a Masters in IT is worthy of consideration IMO (especially at $4200).

    Hope this helps.

Thanks alot guys. As soon as I get my evaluation from Excelsior I will let you know. I have to admit, I'm excited and nervous. In all of my life beside my certs, I have never finish anything. So I look forward to this. Again, thanks!

AFAIK, they only have a time limit on technology courses.

I received credit for my MCSEs and CCNA. Some courses conflicted with certificates and therefore I didn't get as many as I planned for, but still quite a bit.

The best thing to do is to enroll and get an offical evaluation, then you know for sure what you have and what you need.

Good luck, you can do it!
