After two years of pressure, stress, and procrastination, I am pleased to announce that I have passed my written and oral qualification exams today. I am officially(?) an ABD. :D

Now, all I have is one more minor detail called a dissertation to finish!

Just a pesky little disseration? How many words? You should be finished by labour day!

    (Congratulations).

How were the comps? They are coming soon for me (3 more classes which equals about a year)

Congratulations! I'm about a year away from my comps.

    Good luck on the dissertation!

They way my department does comps is one written question from each committee member (minimum of 5 members.) You have 8 hours to complete each question.

After day three, you get pretty tired from writing. By the end of the week, you are exhausted. The orals are done with your entire committee there.

As for the dissertation, there is no set minimum number of pages or words, but it has to be sufficient enough to pass muster with the committee.

How do you do your comps in a DL Phd program?
