Of interest to some: Southern New Hamphire University has an online PhD in Community Economic Development and an online PhD program in Business Administration with an International Business focus. Their web address is: www.snhu.edu.

I was going to ask the same question. I looked at their DBA program and the site specifically states it's not a distance learning program.

and no doctoral degrees among their online offerings:

Is this something brand new? Or is it one of those non listed but you can ask and they'll work it out for you situations?

    Here's the Info

I made an oversight. My apologies. Southern New Hampshire University apparently does not offer the D.B.A degree by distance education. It does though offer the PhD in Community Economic Development by distance. The following information should be helpful.

    Doctoral Programs

Southern New Hampshire University's graduate offerings include a Ph.D. in community economic development and a D.B.A. in international business.

    Available Doctoral programs
Doctor of Business Administration in International Business (D.B.A.)
    Community Economic Development (Ph.D.)

    Community Economic Development (Ph.D.)
    CED (Ph.D.) Application |
Chair: Dr. Yoel Camayd-Freixas; e-mail: [email protected]

The Graduate Program in Policy and Community Economic Development (PCED) includes a Master of Arts in CED policy and a Ph.D. in CED. These programs are managed by the Chair of the Doctoral Program. Applicants to the Ph.D. program need a Masters degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and five years professional experience; students without a masters should apply to the M.A. program.

The doctoral program attends to the disciplinary foundations of CED. It addresses the needs of a diverse group of advanced professionals by preparing them for teaching, research, policy and management careers in government, higher education and the nonprofit sector. Students in the program develop the skills to promote action-oriented research to help shape policy at the local, regional, national and international levels.

The Ph.D. program is offered in residential and nonresidential formats. Students attend classes over five 4-day meetings per semester, and participate in an online learning environment between class meetings. Coursework may be completed over three years in the nonresidential format. The residential format allows students to do the required work at an accelerated pace, shortening the duration of the program, and become involved in professional practice and research at School. Doctoral students completing 36 credit hours of doctoral coursework are eligible to receive the M.A. degree.

    The Ph.D. program facilitates:

A learning community of CED scholars and practitioners who share vision, knowledge and research skills.
A discourse to promote intellectual challenges and original research.
An environment that brings together the people from various intellectual and cultural backgrounds and perspectives to study CED issues at the local, national and international levels.
Cooperative arrangements with universities and public, private, nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations in the United States and abroad.Coursework may be completed over three years in the nonresidential format.

Subject: Community Economic Development PhD Program

    Dear Mr. Poore:

My mentor, adviser and friend directed me to contact you with any questions I have about entry into the Community Economic Development PhD program.

Can the PhD in Community Economic Development be earned entirely online? Another question/concern I have is that
I became aware of the Community Economic Development program today and noted to my dismay that the deadline to file application was April 30. Since I am clearly very late, and since I am not in a position where I can wait an entire year to begin doctoral studies, I am writing to inquire about conditional admissions and/or possibility to registering to take two courses in September 2006.

    Sincerely,

    Shannon

    Shannon,

We are currently oversubscribed for our PhD Program. We can not accommodate your request at this time however, if you are interested and upon completion of the academic admission’s process you can be reviewed in February for September 2007 admission.

Yes, the Community Economic Development PhD Program may be earned online.

Feel free to write with any more questions.
