For those of you with GRE subject test experience I have a question. I am going back and forth debating whether or not to take the GRE in Lit or Psych. I have been studying for the Lit test for a couple of weeks (using Princeton's Review, Barron's, Dummie guides, etc.) and I'm getting increasingly nervous that I will never be able to cover the massive amount of lit needed to pass.

I'm very interested in Psychology and have been exposed to it from a young age due to a parent in the field, and I'm wondering if I should jump ships. Is the Psych GRE any easier to study for? Lit is just a HUGE subject area and most of the poets and classics I am reading for the first time.

My hope is to score an 80% and use it at Excelsior for a BA. I haven't registered for either GRE yet, so I thought I'd put it to all of you experienced test takers!

    Thanks for any advice,

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

I briefly looked at the GRE Subject Exam for Computer Science, but quickly realized that the time it would take to be prepared for those exams wouldbe better spent on other avenues.

Also, bear in mind that "80%" doesn't mean getting 80 out of 100 questions right, it means getting a higher score than 80% of the people who take the exam.

And the people who take the exam are a very select group. Not many people take the exams. When I took the GRE Subject Exam for Computer Science this April, I was the only one doing so at the University of Florida. There were two girls taking the Psychology Subject Test, one person taking the Physics test, one person taking the Biology test, etc.....in total no more than 9 people. Granted, there would be more during the Fall, but still.

BTW, you can find more info at the following forums for the GRE Subject Tests:

Also, if anyone wants to know how horribly I did on the exam, I mention it here in another forum.

On the positive side, Excelsior College doesn't care how many times you take the exam, and the exam only costs $130 each time it is offered in April, November, and December.
