Good Morning, What schools would be considered top choices in the DETC and EADL lists. Thanks.

Hille's question encouraged me to look at the EADC site for the first time in a while.

I was taken aback to see the dreadful and probably illegal "Farelston & Nova College" included as one of only two Canadian members. What kind of standards could EADL have to include such a place? (www.eadl.org) (Not accuracy, that's for sure. The top of their web site states that their next conference will be in "Barcalona."

    Dear Dr. Bear,

is the EADL autorized by CHEA. what do you say about the other non-regional accrediting bodies including DETC.

which ones do you consider worth considering when choosing a college. I can't afford a RA school and need a cheaper option, without touching the quality.
    thanks,

    Where do you live??

Most states in the US have very affordable state colleges that you should strongly consider. In California (where I live) you could very easily get an Associates, bachelors, and Masters, all for $15,000 or so.

You should seriously consider what affordable RA options are available before you start to look into the lesser accrediting agencies colleges and Universities.

  5. I'll second that -- look into community colleges, especially in your state. Often very reasonable tuition rates plus a mix of distance learning, day, evening and weekend courses.

Also, both the DistanceLearn and MindEdge course databases can be searched by maximum cost as well as key words and other factors -- you could use these to identify the least expensive providers of particular courses and then investigate them further. See http://distancelearn.about.com/cs/courseguides/ for links.

There has been much discussion regarding the value of non-RA, recognized, institutional accreditation. I'm sure a search through the existing threads on this board will bring you up to speed.

In short, such accreditation has almost no value in the academic community, so if your goal is to further your education at an RA school, your credits and degrees will likely not be acceptable. If your goal is to put your degree to use in the workplace, it will depend on the kind of work you do. Many employers look for accreditation, but don't know the differnces. However, some professions, agencies, and companies will look for regional accreditation, in which case you will be out of luck. Again, search the threads of this board for a great deal of information on this topic.

I live in Cairo, Egypt. Accordingly, I can't enjoy the rates provided by state universities to its state citizens.

referring to what Rich mentioned, what's important for me and my colleagues is the quality of delivery of the program. Most of us want more knowledge and education that will help us acquire better career.

that's why we need to understand the relevancy of other accredeting agencies such as DETC and EADL. I think these agencies provide a source of confidence on the selected program.

    thanks for your help

I am confused about the lumping together of DETC and EADL. The former is a recognized accrediting agency in the U.S. The other is not. Unless the DETC decides to recognize EADL-accredited schools as being DETC-accredited, they represent two entirely different situations. A school accredited by EADL almost certainly would not be recognized here in the U.S. as a college or university. (Of course, that could often be said of DETC accredited schools!) Case in point: military tuition assistance requires that the school be accredited by a recognized agency. DETC meets that criterion; EADL does not.

    Rich,

i found a Swiss based university called Robert Kennedy University. there MBA and DBA programs looks really good and tuitins are affordable to us.

they are accredited by the European Council for Business Education (SCBE).

Hve you heard about this university and its accreditation.

    appreciate your feedback.

PS: I'll take your advise and review the old threads about different accreditations.

    thanks,

While you're at it, search the old threads for information about this "school." You will find it plentiful. RFK is not accredited, nor recognized in an equivalent fashion. It appears to operate without approval of the Swiss government, but they seem to be doing nothing about it. It is not a university; it issues paper, not degrees.

    Thanks Rich,

i went back to the old threads. it's horrible. These people have a very nice cellibus and a well prepared catalog. They look professionals. Without your warning, I would have been fooled.

    Thanks,
