When I completed my graduate degree I had hoped to get a adjunct position teaching online. I was wondering if it would be worth the time and money spent on my masters. Well, I have a teaching gig and it is great. I just landed my second school and if I taught the “average” number of classes for each I would make about 28K per year. If I got the maximum load it would be about 40K per year extra money.

I would say it is worth the expense if you plan to teach! I wonder what will happen when I get my PhD.

    Randell,
what subjects are you teaching, or which do you feel like you are more in demand for Business or Computers?

I am qualified to teach both but most of the classes I teach are computers.

Right On Randell. As a fellow COSC grad, I take all my hats off to you. I graduated in may and I'm still trying to get a position at any school as an adjunct. Hard to do with English. It's not in demand at present. Anyhow, you go!

Congrats on the new opportunity, Randell1234. I, too, teach as an adjunct and the extra money is financing my Ph.D. classes. I enjoy the flexibility of teaching online, but I also enjoy working with campus classes. You may want to try these if you get the chance.

I have taught as a sub at at tech school and have been a field trainer for the company I work for and I loved it.

Interesting. All of the course codes in my program are EDUC, but since IT is interwoven throughout the curriculum I'm hoping I could teach some IT courses as well. I guess we'll see, as I'm done in December and plan to look for online adjunct gigs starting in January.

Is there a resource/site for prospective adjunct faculty? I'm still at the beginning of my MBA, but I'd be ineterested to read what the requirements are. My program is changing to less core and more concentration courses, and I have the option of taking this route. I read somewhere that you need a certain number of grad hours to teach in that subject.

I believe there is something called Adjunct Nation, but I'm not sure of the www address.
