In the article Degrees of Acceptance (free registration may be required to view) in the NY Times, it states (in the 3rd paragraph) that there is "new legislation eliminating limits on federal aid for online students".

Is this true? Does anyone have a link to the legislation or any other info. on this? I have not been able to find it through googling.

I'd love to know because I was interested in getting a DBA, DM or PhD after I graduate but may need access to more money to complete it.

    Thanks for any info!

I think that means that institutions that have more than half their students be online are no longer unable to offer financial aid. I do not think it means that the amount of financial aid available to individual students has changed.

As of this July, there is a new lfederal oan program the Graduate PLUS Loan which, if I understand it correctly, is said to be able to cover the -entire- cost of graduate school minus any other financial aid (like Stafford, workstudy, scholarships) and minus whatever expected family contribution their formula figures.

This has some credit underwriting guidelines (unlike the Stafford) but these are said to be more lenient than private supplemental school loans.

Interest rate will be 8% I believe.

If accredited online school acheive the same status of B&M with fed loans (not sure of the status of that, did it pass?) then this loan would presumably be available.

As you can imagine, someone relying on this loan can come out with a mindboggling debt.

    Thanks to both of you.

Mind Boggling debt is correct! I did here of the Graduate PLUS program and its already in effect. I thought this was an extension of the standard aid.
