I'm not sure how good this service is, but it would be worth testing. Anyone game?

    According to the web site...

I don't know anything about their degree mill catching service, but it's from one of the downloadable guides from that site that I learned about the inexpensive Master's at GW I'm doing now.

The universities that I've seen listed so far look legitimate. I submitted a request for a well-known, "less-than-wonderful" school...we'll see what kind of response I get [if any at all].

    Update

I sent my initial request to see what they would say about Kennedy Western University. The response is below.

    So far so good.

Alright...an easy one. Any suggestions for one that would be a little more trying?

I just tried 'Northern California Global University'.

It was listed on a CV that passed over my desk and I'm fairly sure it was a US-based mill supplying into Indonesia. Not much came up on Google.

    Not sure if anyone knows?

    Cheers,

Sorry to be predjudicial, but a name like that screams "MILL!" I think it was a good test.

Well, I would check the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education www.bppve.ca.gov to see if they have the appropriate state licensure, after which you might check out the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools www.acics.org , the Distance Education and Training Council www.detc.org , and the the Western Association of Schools and Colleges www.wascweb.org to see if they have the proper accreditation. But the use of "Global" as their middle name does give one a sense that they're attempting to sound, shall we say, a bit too grandiose.

Quite so, although faster than checking all the accreditors' sites is to check the CHEA database:

    Ted,

I did find that blog also, but would prefer something from a more official source.

    Steve,

My instincts are the same but proof is all.

Everything points to a mill but I would like some black and white undisputable evidence.

Maybe one of you guys can ask for me at degreediscussion, too much squabbling and too many egos for me to join over there!

    Thanks guys,

    Dave C.
