I am currently enrolled at University of Phoenix Online program but I am considering moving to Excelsior. I am somewhat unhappy with the U of P system. Can you tell me if Excelsior class format is similiar to the format of U of P? If not, how are classes attended and do we have the group work??

    Thanks for any info.

You really need to read the Excelsior website at www.exclesior.edu to get answers to your questions. Comparing a "menu" program (Excelsior) with a "taught" program (Phoenix) is almost impossible. Classes are not attended; credit is awarded and earned for work done elsewhwere.

Now that I think about it, I could end up explaining the entire process. Go to the website and see for yourself. Then come back and ask specific questions.

Thanks for the info Rich. I actually called Excelsior this afternoon and learned how they do things there. I have since decided to leave U of P. You know their website was hit by NIMDA and they have been down/up for the past week. Truly disgusting, considering how much we pay to attend those classes. What a sick joke. So I'm looking now at COCS or TESC..At least those two seem like a better choice than U of P.

    Thanks,
    Larry

Since I can't edit, I'm reposting this in the correct format:
If you don't mind, I have a couple of questions about UOP for you:

    1. Are you in the undergraduate program (I presume so) and what kind of degree were you pursuing?

    2. Are you leaving because of the technical difficulties you experienced (with their website being up and down) or for academic reasons or for other reasons?

I am very curious because I too recently enrolled over there and am new to this online stuff. Any answers you give are much appreciated.

    Hello me again,
Yes, I am in the undergraduate program. I'm working toward as CS degree. One item I do not like are those group assignments. It seems that I end up doing most of the group work while everyone enjoys the A+. I have some instructors that are complete losers. No communication, no feedback, nothing. It's as if he was not even there while the class continued on following the syllabus. I hear there are a good number of instructors that (teach) this way. I have taken 6 classes and only 2 instructors actually participated with class discussion.
Anyway, I want to review my options and check out a few other DL institutions. I do have many Vendor certifications that U of P would not give me credit for. That is why I was asking about Excelsior College. Hope I answered some of your questions.

Yes, very much so. How many credits have you completed through UOP? If a person graduates from UOP, does it say "online" on their transcripts?
