    Hello Everyone,

I just have a question about Troy University's degree diploma. I finally received my degree certificate today, and it doesn't say anything about my major or even there is a transcript goes along with it. It just says," BACHELOR OF SCIENCE."

    Is that supposed to be?

    Thanks...

In addition to the date, name of school, a bunch of signatures and usual fancy language my degree only says "Bachelor of Commerce". I have heard that some degrees will note majors but I have to admit that I've never seen one that does (not that I've seen that many).

My A.S. diploma lists the major, my B.A. and M.A. diplomas do not.

Many schools do not list a specific major on your diploma, though some do. I've never heard of a school that supplied a transcript along with the diploma.

If you want an official transcript, they are issued routinely by the Registrar's Office. If you send a written request to the Registrar's Office, along with a small fee, they should mail one to you. Some people do like to have a personal copy of their transcript. However, if some other party needs your transcript (e.g. a graduate school or a licensing board), they will probably require another copy, sent directly from the Registrar, to eliminate any possibility of tampering.

Some schools manage to make their diplomas even less informative, by printing them in Latin rather than English. The most uninformative diploma I ever saw was from "Collegi Guiliemensis." You couldn't even identify the school that issued the diploma, unless you knew about Latin personal names and could recognize that as "Williams College".

    Hi TEKMAN,

My diploma was issued many moons ago when the school was "Troy State University." It does not list the major; it only states "Bachelor of Science." My daughter recently graduated from another University, and hers does not list the major, either. I concur with novemberdude: I am sure that some schools list the major, but I have not seen any with the major listed.

As CalDog mentions, transcripts can be ordered from universities for a small fee. Most schools have links on their webpages to the registar's office and the ordering policy. I have seen a few that use a third-party transcript service to handle the requests. Recently, I picked up an "unofficial transcript" from Troy that I used to prepare a list of courses for an adjunct job resume. The "unofficial transcript" was free.

If I remember correctly, you have to provide a signature or some type of authorization to order a transcript. You may have to print out a form and fax it/take it to the registrar, along with some cash.

All of my degrees list the degree and major on them.

Phoenix gives you one copy of your transcript with your diploma (as part of the graduation fee). Northern Va Community College did not. I will have to see with Strayer, but I think it's the same deal as UOP. I've seen Strayer's MBA diplomas, but I didn't look close enough to see if they list concentrations as well. I'll find out in a couple years :)

    Diploma

When I graduated from AIU (Los Angeles) in 1995, I received a Diploma with the major on it as well as two official copies of my transcript. I am not sure if they are still doing this, since the school was bought by CEC and we all know what has happened from there!
