I am finishing my first class and just signed up for my second class. I still need to turn in a 10-page paper and take a final exam but so far it is going great. This is a great addition to my DL degree (even though the certificate is DL) because it adds name recognition and the school is only two and a half hours from my house so it is possible for it to be a B&M program.

(Sorry for digging up an old thread.)

Randell, I'm considering the graduate certificate in Online Teaching and Learning, and I was wondering if you could comment on what the certificates look like. I think I remember you saying that they state that the classes were taken online - does the rest look like a "real" certificate?

There are way cheaper options out there, but I'm emotionally attached to UF, so I would fork out the extra money, provided UF delivers a nice certificate.

It is okay looking but does not have a real diploma look or feel.

Many thanks for getting back to me. So, no wall hanger? Too bad, you'd think for graduate tuition they would give you something nice.

I don't care about nice, I would just like to remove the "online" term.

The online teaching and learning certificate is from a different college at UF, so the certificate will most likely be different, provided there is a paper certificate at all. Some departments at UF do not give a paper certificate, they only add a line to your transcript.

Good point. I sent an email to the the School of Teaching and Learning, and I'll let you guys know what they say.

Oh, just stumbled across this old thread...;)

So, there is a physical certificate, but I am not sure yet what it says. I'll talk to the coordinator on Friday, maybe she can tell me more.

It looks like I'll be going for the certificate anyways. Tuition is reasonable, UF is a great school, and 9 credits usually transfer well into Master's programs. I don't care much if the certificate says "online." For a program in "Online Teaching and Learning," it actually makes sense...

Just a quick update in case someone is interested:

I had a very pleasant and informative conversation with the distance coordinator today, and according to her, the certificate does not say anything about online; it's a regular certificate with school seal and signatures, awarded by the School of T&L.

That is great news - I wish mine did not say it...but then again, no one would ever ask to see it.
