The English 312 DL course at Brigham Young will meet the written English and an upper level 3 hours. I don't "sux at writeing" and it was HARD :) A very good class, but HARD.

The ECE ENGX311 (English Comp 434) was much harder than the similar CLEP exams (with the exception of Analyzing And Interpreting Literature) -- the ECE will meet the written English, the CLEP will not. This is not the route for someone without strong skills. IMHO

You're probably aware (but I include for others reading) that Excelsior will not accept the CLEP (with or without essay) as meeting the written English requirement.

It may well be, if your writing skills truly do suck, that you'd benefit greatly from an in the seat freshman English (Composition) course at your local community college.

I'm sure others have some ideas as well. Good luck.

If you really only need one more course, and it's in a subject where you're particularly weak, I can see the argument for taking an on campus course at your local community college.

You could try the online version of this LSU Independent Study course:

    http://is.lsu.edu/coursefactsheet.asp?nid=301&Rubric=ENGL&CourseNr=1001

Although, as others have said, a face-to-face writing class could be invaluable for you at this stage.
