Anyone know of any good/cheap colleges to get an accounting diploma? Or an accounting degree without having to take generals? My brother is horrible at everything but math and is now finally thinking of going to school but says he doesn't want to have to take generals.

I don't know of any accounting diploma programs online, but I think your brother can take all the accounting courses he would like to take through Louisiana State University Independent Study:

    http://is.lsu.edu/courselist.asp?cat=Accounting&nid=102&pg=

Tuition is about $76 per credit excluding books. Hard to beat.

One, Math has very little to do with Accounting (ie spreadsheet, accpac, calculator). In my accounting class I don't ask numerical questions aloud as I fear hearing the answer will be Low Battery.

As for a cheap way, the bigger question is what is the end goal? CPA? CMA? just a diploma?

    Accounting Degree

Here is a program that enables student to earn both a bachelors degree in accounting and the internationally recognized ACCA qualification:

    http://www.accaglobal.com/students/professionalscheme/degreepartnership/

On the ACCA site, there is also information about the CAT qualification, which may also be of interest.

As a Chartered Accountant, I can honestly say that accounting is a great career choice, especially in the current business climate.

Please let me know if you require more information.

To get an accredited bachelor's degree, he'll have to have liberal arts credits. The easiest way to get those is to CLEP/DSST them. If he can apply himself a little and take an exam once every two weeks and take the accounting courses at Louisiana State, he could complete a bachelor's degree in about 18 to 24 months.

You can get a basic accounting job with just an AA, but those don't pay much more than about $10 an hour in Florida. To get a decent job in Accounting, he will need at least a bachelor's degree. CPA requirements vary from state to state, so I can only tell you the requirements for Florida. To even apply to take the CPA in Florida requires a bachelor's degree and at least another 30 semester credit hours beyond that. Also, there is a requirement for 39 credit hours of upper-level business courses and 36 credit hours of upper-level accounting courses. The business and accounting courses can be a part of the bachelor's degree.

    Good luck,
