    Greetings DLers,

This is a question that was posted in the approved vs. accredited part of the forum. Since there was no response, (other than Randall1234), I am asking it here:

What is the collective wisdom regarding the California University of Business and Technology--as an approved California institution.

I am not asking for comparison with regionally or nationally accredited institutions, rather relative to other California approved schools awarding the same class of degrees, namely, EdDs and DBAs.

I am interested in your opinions out there.

I have never heard of it, and I can't find it on Google. Do you have a link to a website?

(Edit). Never mind...I found it. Their web site is located at http://www.cubt.edu/

I'm curious. Why would you want to study at an institution which is only California state-approved? The utility of such a degree would be dubious at best.

I am aware that law degrees awarded by California-approved institutions allow students to sit for the bar in that state, but CUBT offers no such degree. Which program are you looking at, and what do you hope to do with such a degree?

While California state-approved degrees do offere low tution prices, the same low prices can be found (for residents) at accredited institutions in the state.

    TCord1964,

I am interested in learning about the status of this school in relationship to others of its kind. And, I am still interested in opinions.

As to your question regarding studying for a degree with them, I did not say anything about that. I already have my doctorate.

In practice, I don't think that there is much perceived difference in status between any two CA-approved, unaccredited schools. So in general, a degree from CUBT is probably no better and no worse than a degree from any other such institution.

CUBT doesn't appear to be very well known. Some other CA-approved schools, like California Pacific University, might have an edge over CUBT in terms of name recognition.

CUBT is based in Hacienda Heights, which is known for its large Asian population and Buddhist temple complex. It wouldn't surprise me if CUBT's enrollment included a significant percentage of Asian immigrants, but this is pure speculation.

Funny you say that - when I spoke to them about 2 years ago the person I spoke to had a strong Asian accent. Everyone I spoke to was very helpful and I really considered that school.

I've always wondered about CUBT as well, especially the MACIS. It looks a solid, no frills, and inexpensive education.

Well, then, there seems to be a sense that CUBT is an OK institution as far as approved schools go!

Honestly, I really don't know anything directly about CUBT. Their degrees seem to offer a lot of value for the money. I have visited the website from time to time over the last few years and haven't see much change. I've never read any complaints about them on this board though. However, it would be interesting to hear about their process from one of their students.
