    Hi,

I'm searching for about a year now for a good university that gives online Master degree in IR. and found >>MA Religion, Politics and International Relations at Wales University

what do you think of Wales University online degree programs? Is it flexible?...I've been told that British universities are loaded with reading materials and have less interaction when it comes to distance learning method, in contrast to Australian and American universities. What do you think?

I don't think Lampeter's DL programs are completely online-based. I am currently in their philosophy program, and it's simply six modules that you read, reflect upon, and write about.

I like the program a lot, but I will probably withdraw soon because of a new federal law which prevents Americans from using their financial aid for overseas DL study.

If you're paying out of pocket, then it's no biggie.

Can you tell me the reason why you choose Lampeter University first? Could you give more details about how is it like?

They do have some degrees that are fully online based, such as this one www.islamic-studies.net .

The thing is that I've inquired about the DL method and they just told me it is up to the advisor, not enough info. I need to know about this experience, the paying is out of my pocket and I fear that I may fail because i'm new to DL. I think It would be easier and more effective if it is completely online-based.

While Lampeter does have many wonderful external, DL degrees, they are not "online" in the true sense (when compared to Capella, Phoenix, etc.). The online component of Lampeter's DL programs is minimal, and it is limited to perhaps periodic email contact with your course instructor. The six modules plus dissertation is delivered through a snail-mail format (think traditional correspondence-type study).

And speaking of the modules...A "module" is a packet of information pertaining to the module subject matter. You will have to read this module and digest its contents. Module assesment is one 5,000-word essay or two 2,500-word essays. If successful, you will earn 20 credits for a completed module. Repeat this process six times, and you'll have completed the coursework requirements for your masters. Then you'll have to attack your dissertation (thesis)...which is another matter entirely.

Lampeter's approach is more research-driven, with guidance in the form of module material and instructor contact. It is structured in terms of module scope, but you have freedom to spend more or less time in a particular area of interest. In contrast, most "online" programs have strict syllabus requirements, and you have very little academic freedom. At the same time, the structured enviroment appeals to some students.

I chose Lampeter because it offered a DL master's in philosophy, with a possibility of "converting" over to a PhD after completing 1/3 of the course-based master's. This was a good fit for me, as I have two bachelor's and one master's already, but they are not in philosophy. Lampeter provided me with an opportunity to study a subject I love without having to start at ground zero in terms of academic standing.

First, I must congratulate you for the two bachelors' and the master degree..Wow, you must be proud of yourself.

Did you face any difficulty studying for this philosophy degree? Also I want to know if it is possible to communicate with other students studying the same module?

No real difficulties...Just be prepared to be more self-directe if you are accustomed to American course-based degrees.

You can contact other students as well.
