I am about to finish up my MBA through Texas A&M - Commerce over the next 8 months and will have a minor in marketing as well. My question is since my degree will mainly be about business administration, management, and marketing I do not think there is such a demand for these areas for online adjunct teaching. So I guess my question or comment is to seek advice from you all to sdee if I should seek out another Minor in a certain area to better my chances at landing an online Adjunct position soon after graduating. Can someone please advise me on what I can or should do to open the doors to teaching others areas and also which areas seems to have a more need then just BA or BM or Marketing?

    Thanks All,

    Joe

Information Technology and Accounting are areas where there seems to be a strong demand right now. At most schools, you will need 18 hours graduate level credit hours in the subject in which you teach. Often MBA programs don't give you the 18 hours in the same subject. I knew going into my graduate degree that I wanted to teach so I chose to complete a MA degree instead of the MBA.

As far as landing a job, networking seems to be the most effective for me. I landed one of my jobs because I went to church with a lady who teaches at this college. She introduced me to the academic dean who hired me. I'm also working for another university as a contract trainer and landed that position because I knew the lady who hires individuals to fill those positions. I mentioned in a conversation with her that I might be interested in training for her and it wasn't long before she gave me a call.

Outside of networking, check the websites of all of the colleges in your local area. Most of them post announcements on their websites. You can also check the career section on the Chronicle of Higher Education and the American Association of Community Colleges.

Good luck with your education and your quest for teaching. I thoroughly enjoy my experiences in the classroom and would love to find a full time job teaching.

Finance is one of the sub-disciplines of business that is frequently mentioned as being particularly difficult to find qualified adjuncts.

Thanks for the input guys. To bad finance is not my strong side :) lol But who knows maybe if I dig deep I can get good at it and go for the extra units in that field to teach.
