Anyone's opinion of Saint Mary of the Woods college? Good things? Bad things?

I'm considering using their DL program for a creative writing degree.

    Thanks!

St. Mary of the Woods in Terre Haute Indiana? It's a respected college in the Midwest and pretty well known in Indiana/Illinois. Not sure how well known it is outside of the Midwest area. I've never heard anything negative about them. There are several schools with negative reputations in Indiana/Illinois, but St. Mary of the Woods is not one of them.

What schools in IN/IL have a bad rap? Just curious!

I don't think I should post that kind of info for obvious reasons.

Or, "I'd rather not get sued" or "I'd rather not get flamed by grads of those schools" or "I'd rather not contribute to their enrollment by telling the stupid people where to look"

    Let's be fair.

................then don't make a comment you cannot or will not support with fact.

I would highly recommend Saint Mary of the Woods, as I took several courses there. I assume you are speaking of the Women's External Degree program, and the administrator and staff of the program are very responsive to questions and concerns. Faculty also seem to be helpful and interested. A bit pricey (which is mainly why I didn't try to finish my degree there) but if you have the resources, well worth the money.

    My .02.

Is that your opinion or can you support with fact somehow that unsuported/undocumented statements are always improper?

I'm thinking that the tossing of ideas and the more than occasional opinion on these boards is pretty common place and for the most part (at least in the case of this example) generally accepted.

But, if we must: there was a comment that one individual was aware of some schools in Il/In with a less than stellar reputation, he then failed to name them for whatever reason he chose.

Is it possible that there are no schools in Il/In with a less than stellar reputation in some persons opinion? I might take the argument that since it is very unlikely that there are no people who consider that some school in the area in question has "a bad rap" -- that the statement that some schools do "have a bad rap" is supported by logic/reason if not by fact.

Laundry list isn't required but running a Google search on "Indiana College Sucks" provides plenty to support the idea that there are sufficient people who think some of those schools deserve "a bad rap".

BTW - Saint Mary of the Woods College www.smwc.edu now accepts men on the undergraduate level and WED now stands for Woods External Degree.

I'm pretty sure that SMWC only accepts men as undergraduates in the distance education programs, as it has for some time now.

SMWC used to serve as an unofficial "sister school" to the formerly male-only Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

SMWC has accepted men into its graduate distance learning program for some time now; it is the acceptance of men into the undergraduate distance learning program that is relatively new, hence the change in the WED program's name from Women's External Degree program to Woods External Degree program.

Nope - just don't make irresponsible statements or comments without some method of proof or evidence. Makes you sound like John Kerry <wink>.

You're absolutely correct and I was gravely mistaken! The only time I had ever looked at SMWC's offerings was when I was looking at available graduate courses through the Indiana College Network, so I must have thought that men were always included in the distance bachelors programs.
