The more cynical you become, the better off you'll be. ;)

Another example of a for-profit trying to buy legitimacy. Capella may or may not be a decent school, but this incessant focus on marketing tactics casts them in a very negative light.

Steve, this is the first time that the school ever won this award so its still a good thing. The school gets a lot of bashing in this forum and deserves some recognition when it does something good.

Past winners of this award include:

DISTANCE EDUCATION INNOVATION AWARD 2005- to the Institute for Academic Alliances, Kansas State University “Rapid Response Inter-Institutional Academic Program Development and Implementation Model.”

Distance Education Innovation Award 2004: "LAAPHYSICS," Harol Hoffman and Jerry Meisner, University of North Carolina - Greensboro.

Distance Education Innovation Award 2003: Gerald H. Maring, Ph.D., for "The Washington State University Cybermentoring Project."

The Ivy League schools (Harvard, Yale) are also guilty of this but I see no wrong in a school trying to promote itself and improve its reputation. And besides, being a major sponsor of an organization that supports the application of new technology in distance learning is not a bad thing and I see no reason why this school or the others that participate in this consortium be presented in a negative light.
