DETC has updated its website for offering the professional doctorate degrees:

    http://www.detc.org/degree.html

Other than Columbia Southern University's DBA, College of the Humanities and Sciences will be offering Doctor of Education. I thought there were 5 schools that participated in the doctorate pilot program. What happened to the other three?

The Ed.D being offered at the College of Humanities and Sciences is very unique in terms of its format. It appears to be a flexible and interesting program. However it is important to keep in mind that DETC has not received final approval from the US Department of Education granting the expansion of the scope of their accreditation powers to incorporate doctoral degrees.

As discussed on another thread there are still a number of unknowns relating to the viability of these degrees in the labor market for job seekers and for promotional opportunities. In addition, will future DETC doctorates in a field such as Psychology enable one to be a candidate for state licensure on par with RA doctoral graduates? Also will states (such as Florida and New Jersey) with stringent laws prohibiting (to do so is considered a criminal offense) any individual to refer to themselves as "Doctor" unless they possess an RA doctorate ultimately loosen this requirement and allow DETC doctoral graduates to do the same?

At this time DETC does not have the answers to these and other questions.

I spoke with the Vice President, Kathleen Mirabile, who provided a detailed comprehensive overview of the doctoral program. I was also told that the program details were scheduled to be placed online today. However at this time they are not posted.
