I just enrolled and started the first seminar in this program. So far, I am satisfied with the prospect of this study. But since I've become involved with it, I've started noticing their banner ads on (relevant) websites like news and foreign policy sites. While they are not flooding the internet like UoP, I'm worried that this overmarketing of online degrees will be more detrimental to their reputation than warranted.
    Any thoughts?

I think Norwich has a strong enough reputation that some Internet banner ads aren't going to matter much.

Around here, you can't take the bus or subway without seeing an advertisement for Harvard Extension School, but no one thinks the Harvard name is going to suffer as a result.

    Norwich Diplomacy

I am in half way through the Diplomacy program and I only have great things to say about it. The school does an impresive job with the DL students, they really make you feel part of Norwich. The work is very time intensive and get ready to give up your life for the nest 18 months; but it is well worth it.

I have Norwich listed on my resume (class 2007) and not one single person has had any negative reaction to the school, as a matter of fact it is pretty well regarded here in NYC. I do nt think Norwich willl lessen their brand - in fact the change the name of the graduate school from Online Graduate Program to The School of Graduate Studies. Also, you can call the school with any concerns you may havem they really try to listen to the students and make changes suggested. Hope this helps.

    Re: Norwich Diplomacy

I am interested in this program too. However, I can't find where they list tuition prices. How much does this program cost? I submitted my info for a contact a few weeks ago and have yet to be contacted.

    Thanks!

They just started a term so it ay be another week or two before they call you. Norwich does not have high pressure sales tactics so....

The degree is not cheap you are looking at about 23k but it includes books and all materials. It has been well worth it for me.

    Hi Jonathan,

If you wouldn't mind letting us know, what is the per unit tuition/fee at Norwich for the online programs? It's not posted on the website in any obvious place. Thanks in advance.

They charge per semester (each semester is two terms of 11 weeks); I paid around 8K per sem, this includes tuition, tech fee all books and resources.

I graduated from the Wick (nickname for Norwich) Corps of Cadets in 97. Bruce is correct in stating that Norwich has a strong enough reputation, and an alumni network for that matter - especially in government and military.

As an alumnus, even if you didn't join the Corps of Cadets I assure you that Norwich grads will treat you no different from an Army Green Beret alum who spent six months in Afghanistan neutralizing terrorists.

Here in Pennsylvania there are Penn State ads everywhere - bus, billboard, bars, etc... But the reputation of Penn State as a solid school remains strong. I wouldn't be too concerned with Norwich ads.

And, yes, it's not a cheap school. I'm still paying for my student loan. Good luck and Essayons.

I got accepted to the MA diplomacy for Dec 08 start, but I have a few questions I hope some of you can answer:

-I was told by an admission advisor that there is an alum website with job postings, but I have not received any reply from her and an assistant program director as to whether or not most of these jobs are solely in the US (I am Canadian residing in Tokyo) and if they are classified according to the 3 concentrations. Anyone has been able to visit this site? Or better yet has suggestions as to how proceed for job hunting after an online degree in diplomacy?

-Also I read that the acceptance ratio for the program is 97%.. which somehow worried me. In Canada university is virtually free, and so far it seems that the Norwich staff are only fast at getting back to me regarding payments.

How is Canadian University, virtually free??? Many schools in the US are on par with Canadian costs.

I'd like to pull this thread just a tiny bit off-topic. I know something about Norwich. It has a good rep in New England and that's a hard place to develop a good rep because there are so many other good schools there.
I've sprinted through the Norwich Diplomacy website and my question is this:
beyond the formal diplomatic positions offered as a part of the US Dept. of State, what kind of jobs does this position prepare you to take? It looks like a great program, but what do you do afterwards?

I don't have the answer, but Sarah Palin needs to attend this program in order gain more information about International Relations. After two years of being Governor of Alaska, the experiences with Canada and Russia are not enough for her to be the Vice President.

I'm thinking that with the process of globalization continuing to spread to all corners of the world that it might be valuable for some big corporations to have people trained in the fine art of diplomacy. Somebody has to be the one to smooth over the rough spots and help to make people from very differnt cultures work together. It could be a cool job (if you don't mind being dragged all over the world all the time.

Some years ago I checked into this non - DL program at CSUSB (did not pursue because of travel considerations).

Students were mostly employed already - quite a few from the former Norton AFB, some from aerospace companies (as I would have been), and some from law enforcement agencies.

    Norwich Diplomacy

I graduated from the NU Diplomacy program, and I can tell you this, the degree in itself is tailored for work in international organizations, peace building operations, and or UN type agencies. Having said this, I have many friends that went through the program with me and the degree has been very useful for them career wise.

As an example, one got a job with The Hague, one is working for the department of state, one is working for the Republican Party, and one is an information analyst for the AF (civilian), another is working for the Federal Courts - so in essence the degree is a good door opener for many paths. I work in community development, and the degree helped understand different cultures and how their issues should be addressed.

Also, many go onto law school, business school, or go into teaching. Overall Norwich is an awesome school, has many resources for the students, and the name does make a difference.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, you've all confirmed my suspicion that this is a very versatile degree.
