I noticed the post on Petersons web site. Seems to have a very liberal policy on accepting credits from other institutions. Any input?

Canyon College is not accredited by any recognized agency. As a result, its own credits and degrees will have no acceptance in the world of higher education. It is likely the only usage you will get from such a degree in the workplace is by fooling people into thinking you have a real degree.

Colleges tend to accept credits at the same level as they themselves operate. Regionally accredited schools tend to accept credits from other regionally accredited schools (and foreign equivalents). DETC schools tend to accept credits from regionally accredited schools and other DETC-accredited schools. Canyon College is recognized by no one, so you should expect them to accept credits from everywhere.

There are many flexible, inexpensive, accredited options available to distance learners. I would invite you to share your situation, interests, and goals. You might find some good advice around here.

When I was fourteen years old I worked every Saturday evening as a dishwasher in a local family style restaurant. Do you think Canyon would give me life-experience-credit for this? I was required to attend a ten-minute training session. [IMG]

I am increasingly distressed by Peterson's lack of rigor in reviewing the institutions it promotes.

I believe that this is the third or fourth "less-than-wonderful" program that has had high visibility at Peterson's.

It would be a shame to have the Peterson's name deteriorate to the point that people couldn't rely on their information any more, but they seem headed in that direction.

Thanks for the replies. I find it very disturbing that Petersons' gives this school credibility. I am going to contact them and will post the reply. Be well. hille

Steve Levicoff determined, a few years ago, by phoning the local fire department (an intriguing way to check things out) that the Canyon College "campus" was in fact a private home.

And now, thanks to Kristin's further detective work, we have the strong likelihood that the Storrs family has added another rotten arrow to its quiver, the equally useless Breyer State University.

Good Morning, I just received an e-mail from Canyon College that they are accredited by the Central State Consortium of Colleges and Schools. Is this in someones' garage?

Probably. It is *definitely* a fraudulent accreditor.

The address of this bogus organization traces to "Dominic Flarey Associates", listed as an "unclassified business" in the reverse search engine. The address is also listed as the "American Institute of Healthcare Professionals", which Mr. Flarey apparently owns. An archived version of the Canyon College FAQ shows an email address for this bogus accreditor of "[email protected]".

It might be interesting, if you're up for it, to confront Canyon with this info and see how they respond. My guess is there will be a lot of shucking and jiving.
