    Hi Everyone!

    Hopefully someone can help me...

I am new to this site and am completely new to distance learning. Please bare with me!

I am currently looking for an online University which would offer me a choice of Associate Degree programs, with the option for building on it in the future. I am interested in working in an office setting, or with the Government.

Because I am located in Canada, from what I understand, it is very important that the School be REGIONALLY accredited, however, the school itself does not have to be in Canada. Cost is a factor. I am looking to be able to do this in the most economical way possible (Canadian universities tend to be more pricey from what I've seen so far).

Does anyone know of any schools that would be what I am looking for? Any information anyone can give me would be so greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!!

Generally speaking, if you're going to want to build upon the associate's degree in the future, you will likely want an Associate of Arts of Associate of Science grounded firmly in the liberal arts. This will allow that the credit you earn in the AA/AS will transfer as the core requirement of a BA/BS.

In contrast, an Assoc. in Business or Assoc. of Applied Science is likely to include much coursework that has limitted applicability to the higher degree but might have more utility now.

Take a look at the degree models at Excelsior College (http://www.excelsior.edu) for an example of how an AA can transfer into a BA.

You should be able to find any number of general studies type community college programs in the "cost effective" range. Finding one relatively closer to you might make visiting the campus a possibility; something that may be of interest at graduation time.
