    Hello everyone,
I live in USA and my parents live in India. My dad is a doctor there will 30 years of work experience. He has done very well for himself.
He has an MBBS degree and started with working in hospitals in Bombay and later started his own clinic as General Practitioner. Now he has his own hospital there.
The thing is we meaning myself and my 2 brothers live here in USA. and we want him to come here and settle down with us.
I want to know what options do we have for him.He is reluctant to go for USMLE exams and study specialization for 3 years. We are not sure if he will want to do a job as it involves lot of hassles with H1 visa etc and also since he has always worked independently it could be difficult for him.
Also my dad works very hard in India and hates sitting idle.
We have even thought about business in a totally different field from medicine but i do think he would prefer being in the same field that he has excelled in.He loves his profession.
I know there will be very few options in this scenario. There are so many experienced and knowledgeable people here on these discussion board. It would be great if you can help us with this dilemma.
Your help will be very much appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Sabs

    Namaste and welcome to DegreeInfo!

You didn't say that your father particularly wants to emigrate to the U.S. Is this your father's wish, or just that of you and your brothers? I ask because you say he doesn't want to go through the USMLE process, but that's the only way for him to practice the profession here that is his life's work.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, I just mean it as food for thought.

A few thoughts here. For starters, I am nit an attorney (nor do I play one on TV). As such, I would not want you to construe this as offering legal or professional advice; rather, you need to contact an attorney who specializes in immigration law. Now, if your father wants to immigrate to the US but does not wish to take the USMLE, given that he owns his own hospital in India, could he use the general creditworthiness of that hospital to raise enough start-up capital for a multiple-physician medical practice and, rather than doing the actual doctoring himself, maybe being the management brains behind the practice while the doctors whom he hires as his young associates actually deal with getting the patients all healed up? Also, one might not have to be in a totally unrelated business. For example, could your father, perhaps in association with some buddies who are doctors and engineers, raise the money for a business inventing, producing, and marketing various kinds of useful devices of medical technology that doctors and hospitals need? As for the immigration thing, be prepared to ask your lawyer some intelligent questions. How many close relatives per year can an individual help immigrate to the US? Must a person helping a relative immigrate be a US citizen or need one only necessarily be a permanent resident? How much money would one need to make in order to sponsor a relative? If your dad had seed capital to get a business started, would that be a basis to strengthen his application for immigration? What are some other bases that would support an immigration application? Etc.

    Thanks

    Thanks everyone,
My dad and I have read all the replies here.He is here on a visit for a month.
The links that you have sent are very good.
Raristud, the link you have sent will be helpful. In fact we did not even know about that about the possibility of immigraton through investment. We looked up the link and the capital needed is definitely within our reach. We will find out more about this.
Thanks Faxinator, the article is good but it's mostly about physicians who have been through the USMLE exam etc.My dad is reluctant to take this exam.If i remember correctly there is one poster here on this forum who is also a physician? I also think there is one other person here who has a DO and studying further. If any of you have an idea about these persons please let me know their username.
Thanks Ted,I was expecting some helpful response from you as you have helped me and many others before with your advice, when i was looking for which online degree to go for. your advice makes so much sense. My dad was glad to read it.
Namaste Steve, thanks for the welcome.I should have mentioned the fact that my dad is also very much interested in moving here for good.
All we need is a quick and legal method to do so.
Thanks everyone for your help.I am going to wait for more responses from you and others.
    Thanks a bunch,
    Sabs
