This is my first post so, please, go easy on me . I hold an advanced degree in government and a teaching credential. I taught, years ago, at the secondary level and also picked up some four adjunct assignments at a small college. I've not been in the classroom for some 15 years or so but have never forgotten how energizing the adjunct experience was. Realizing that pol sci instructors are a dime-a-dozen species I am cognizant that I need to add an additional subject, or better yet a second masters, in order to be a viable candidate to teach at a CC full time. The problem is that I can only come up with history (a second undergrad major). Would pol sci coupled with history and augmented with adjunct experience be sufficient to be a candidate given serious consideration by a hiring committee?
My understanding is that positions in history are as easy as those in political science for community colleges to fill. If you want to be in demand, try finance or physics. A Master's in it wouldn't hurt, but since you already have one in anything, eighteen graduate credit-hours will do. Good luck! -=Steve=-
Sometimes the history/poli sci combo can be handy. There are occasionally ads on the Chronicle for instructors that can teach both subjects at the CC level. Here is a good article that applies to your situation. http://chronicle.com/jobs/news/2005/01/2005011401c/careers.html
