I know this sounds a littly bitchy, but it struck me so I thought I'd share it. Feel free to flame me. Skip down to the reader comments. Is anyone else unimpressed by the quality of writing in the comments by Phoenix students -- and even faculty? -=Steve=-
No flames from here. I caught that too. Personally, I don't want to see for profits become the future. Despite the fact that I have been very satisfied with my first for profit experience so far, the fact that NCU is a for profit still bugs me. I just thought it was an interesting read.
Randell, I know you are correct, but it is the notion that for profits are only concerned about the bottom line that really bothers me. I say again, notion, over. For a for profit, NCU was the lowest price RA doctoral program out of all programs that I looked into.
It's not at all bitchy. The fact that people are touchy about the sort of criticism you present doesn't make it any less valid. Writing is a fundamental tool, and writing effectively should be (but far too often is not) one of the results of a college education. I was unimpressed by the quality of the writing of a number of Touro University International master's graduates I had stumbled across. It seemed to me that Touro didn't concern itself with ensuring that its students had mastered the basics, nevermind the advanced writing and argumentation skills that I would expect from the holder of a master's degree. It certainly colored my opinion of the quality of Touro's programs and its graduates, and dissuaded me from applying.
While not impressed, I do have to consider the format of the writing. It is a message board. People are typing fast and make mistakes. Even with having an edit feature, many of us are guilty of less than quality writing on this forum.
