Both of whom have one toe in California with the rest in Hawaii. FTU and PWU each operate twin schools. Each has a program or two approved in California. For customers seeking other degrees, each school offers just about anything else through Hawaii's much more liberal licensing. It is a way to get around California approval; the degree recipients likely receive whatever benefit there is to be had. It is unlikely many people will make the distinction. "Oh, you have a master's from Pacific Western? Was it from the California-approved PWU or the Hawaii-licensed PWU?" Uh-uh.

Perhaps, due to the recent actions taken by the Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection, the HI branch of FTU is now at Montana.

Man, were they ever quick in determining where to get the rubber stamp of approval...oops, I meant school license. [IMG]

According to the Secretary of State's office in Montana, it is their responsibility to issue the license, which they do for any business. Then it is up to the Board of Regents to regulate them. It would seem like the other way around would be prudent: have the school apply for approval by the Board of Regents, then issue a license once the Regents have evaluated the school and given it (at least provisionally) the okay. But that makes too much sense.

PWU has Senate and House commendation certificates

I found it interesting that PWU has State Commendations.

Pacific Western University is recognized and commended by the Hawaii Senate and the Hawaii House of Representatives for its innovative, cost effective quality distance-learning programs and for meeting the diverse educational needs of its students throughout the United States and abroad. We are proud to be able to present these important commendations to you. Just click on the following links: House of Representatives Certificate | Senate Certificate

A reporter for the Honolulu daily told me, a couple of years ago, that Pacific Western was making "substantial" donations to various politicians in the state. It would seem that this investment has borne fruit.

    *LOL*

At least PWU is honest in their section "Degree Granting Authority"

"THE UNIVERSITY IS NOT ACCREDITED BY A RECOGNIZED ACCREDITING AGENCY OR ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZED BY THE UNITED STATES COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION."

FTIU No Longer Operating from Hawaii

Under the terms of a recent agreement, FTU's Hawaii operation, Frederick Taylor International U, is no longer operating from or under the color of Hawaii law. All FTIU students enrolled or graduated after July 1, 1999 are eligible to receive full restitution from FTIU.
