I currently hold a Master degree with my concentration in Management. My career has always been in the accounting working as an Accounting Manager for many years and most recently as Controller for the past 14. I also teach for a local college and have been told that in order for me to teach any accounting classes beyond ACC101 and ACC102, I would need to have 18 graduate hours in accounting.

I have checked out the Certificate programs offered by Strayer University and a couple of others and will probably complete one of those programs. I would however like to complete my Doctorate.

I'm looking for online or short residency doctoral programs that offer a concentration in accounting. I've done some online searches and the only thing I've come up with is Anderson University. Their program looks interesting and I may eventually apply to their school although it appears that there is a limited number of admissions to their program each year.

Can anyone offer some additional suggestions?

    Thanks, ProfTim

As an alum, I'd put a plug in for Nova Southeastern. They have had an accounting concentation in their DBA program for many years. NSU has as good a reputation as you'll probably find for a DL program in business. Further, they have sufficient size to offer concentrations in marketing, finance, accounting, etc. and they actually have full-time faculty in these areas. One of my recent classmates found full-time employment in a AACSB program with his DBA-Accounting from NSU.

    Regards - Andy

I can highly recommend Argosy's DBA program in Accounting. My wife (MBA/CPA) has recently completed her written and oral comp exams and is starting the dissertation phase at Argosy.

Recently she has taught accounting courses for Golden Gate University (in resdence) and DeVry accounting courses (on-line). This summer she will be teaching (adjunct) a graduate accounting course for an AACSB school in residence.

All of the schools mentioned in the responses to your post are good, your choice may depend on whether you want 100% on-line or short residencies?

    How much and how long???

    Dr Rene,

Approximately how much has it cost your wife so far? And how long does your wife expect to complete the program?

I believe it has cost her approx $35K so far, with approx $10K left for the dissertation. I imagine it will take her approx one year to complete the dissertation.

    Dr Rene,

    Thanks for the info...

    Wow, $45K... That's a lot of money.
However, the Argosy brochure states that it costs somewhere between $35K to $40K per year full time. Does that mean your wife completed all of the coursework in a year or two?

I believe she started in 2003. She took some courses on-line, some courses in residence, and she also had some week-long intensive courses. She was taking classes at the Orange County campus as well as the San Francisco campus.
