    Capella scores high in national study of online learners

    During November 2005, Capella University participated for the second time in Noel-Levitz's Priorities Survey for Online Learners (PSOL). Overall, Capella University received high scores. Scales measuring enrollment services (financial aid, course registration and billing), student services, and academic services scored above the national results-set for the second year in a row.

    All learners were invited to participate in this online survey. More than 5,100 Capella University learners responded, providing a response rate of 25.6 percent. Learners' results are compared to the national results-set, which includes almost 17,000 learners from over 32 institutions offering online degree programs. The survey results are used for three purposes:

    1. A learner satisfaction study;
    2. A vehicle for identifying institutional strengths and challenges; and
    3. A way to provide national comparisons or benchmarks on the items covered.

    Noel-Levitz identified both strengths and challenges for Capella University. Academic strengths related to Capella's library, instructional materials, programs' academic standards and offerings, and the Degree Completion Plan. Operational strengths included convenience of course registration and getting timely responses to requests for information. Challenges related to appropriate course workloads, consistent course experiences, and faculty's online instruction.

    The 2004 and 2005 PSOL results contributed to Capella's improvement efforts by targeting areas that learners find most important, and maintaining and improving areas in which learners already experience satisfaction.
