I just got this email today from the Director of Military Recruitment for NCU. Since I am no longer eligible for Army TA, this email doesn't do me any good but some of you may benefit from this information. I'm not sure if it applies to the other services but it would be worth asking if it applies.

So what does this mean? Are soldiers no longer eligible to use TA for NCU, or does this have something to do with the EArmyU program?

I am in my second course with NCU and have used the Navy's TA to pay for both of them. We have to have the TA paperwork approved before we enroll in a class. Once it's approved and we sign up for the class, NCU defers the amount due until the Navy sends the funds. It usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks for NCU to receive payment. So, by the end of the course the class is usually paid for, but if for some reason NCU does not get their money from the government (course failure or dropout without a sufficient excuse) the service member is liable for the payment.

I would imagine that it would work the way robertp described it.

When I worked on my master’s degree, the education office for the post where I was stationed at the time had a deal for the service members stationed there. The education office would pay the TA amount for classes up front and then they would get reimbursed approximately 4 to 6 weeks later.

By NCU deferring payments, service members don’t have to pay the TA amount out of pocket and then have to wait to be reimbursed.

I wasn’t sure if this was something new but I figured it was worth posting just in case.
