AXIA College which is a part of UoP is hiring Adjuct Professors. The link is

The prescreener says that you have had to earn your graduate degree two years prior to appointment.

The Axia Faculty recruiting program is OK, but be prepared to compete with a few hundred other new adjunct faculty members to get a course to teach. When I went through the training program, there were 5 faculty training courses starting on the same day with about 20 to 30 people per training course. In addition, they have new faculty training courses every month to bring new faculty into the program.

What's their advantage in training so many prospective adjunct instructors? I can see how they would want to train more than they need, just in case, but not an order of magnitude more.

    It's all about the churn

They churn through instructors like you wouldn't believe and the recruiting process puts most of the work on the applicant.

Oh, that's right. I remember that thread about how one makes more per hour as a Wal-Mart greeter than as an adjunct for Phoenix, and they and Axia have the same administration.

In my university, I'd treat well performing adjuncts decently. I can't imagine it wouldn't lead to a better student experience and fewer general problems.

You would want to have 3 times more than you need as many instructors are not available though the year. Devry plays the same game, the train you and keep you in a waiting list and call you when something comes available. I have been with them for about two years and only taught two courses for them.

Online teaching should be seen as a hobby or supplement income but not as a way to earn a living.

    UOP

Maybe its because of the courses I teach (accounting) because I have been teaching for UOP for almost 3 years and I constantly get courses. I have had to turn some courses down. I once thought about applying to teach at Devry since that is where my undergrad is from.

I've been wondering this, and if this is bad manners I apologize in advance, but what does the likes of UoP pay a professor for teaching a 5 week course?

About 1200 dollars per course. If you do the math, about the same hourly rate that a McDonald's employee make.

Again, not exactly a good way to make a living.

Thanks, just curious. I thought one day of doing some P/T teaching just to supplement income if I ended up having the time...

$1,200 seems high. I very recently was quoted $950 as a new instructor to them. I'm an MBA/CPA

$950 is the standard for new instructors teaching a 5-week undergrad course. Graduate courses obviously pay better.

Depending on how much time you spend per week facilitating the course, the UoP pay rate is around $20-30 per hour. Not great, but I suspect most people do it for the experience/enjoyment, because you're not going to get rich an adjunct.
