THE ERODING FACULTY PAYCHECK Inflation outpaced professorial raises for second year in a row. Plus lists of highest and lowest salary averages. http://insidehighered.com/news/2006/04/24/salaries
Thank you for the link. I can't fully relate to the article because I'm not there yet as a faculty member. Some things surprised me though (1) Rockefeller U profs get a bunch of money, more than Harvard, and (2) The Bronx CC and Kingsborough CC assistant profs average about $82,000. Now the $82,000 I can relate to because it's not easy to live in a place like Manhattan on $82K a year without public housing from NYC housing authority or the 80/20 housing pans. I posted a study here that the profs did at our school http://facultysalaries.sonador.com/ and that was posted at www.umucreview.com . Our profs make a lot less than even the NYC community college assistant profs. I guess it must be discouraging for some people to consider teaching nowadays as a careeer path. It simply doesn't pay unless one makes it at Rockefeller U or Harvard or someplace like that.
