While filling out my application package to get an audit of credits I can take in with me I found something that made me thing twice.

All students regardless of how they pay tuition must select the "pay as you go" option AND provide banking, debit or CC info. One must also agree that the tuition will be debited from said account two weeks prior to the start of the class..

PERSONALLY, I AM USING MILITARY TA, AND THE ELLIS CLASSES COST $1040 WITH THE SO- CALLED MILITARY DISCOUNT.
What I can tell you is, that dog aint gonna hunt!

The Military TA system is messed up as it is. It is also very slow sometimes.

What a financial mess that would be for yours truly.

Sad to say but I may have to kill the idea of a NYIT degree..

Does anyone have first hand experience with Ellis? Am I making too big of deal of this situation??

Be honest, I don't have experience with Ellis College NYIT. I contacted them several time before I decided to use Troy University. Their tuition is more expensive than Troy University...that's why I chose Troy. Therefore, I can use $4,500.00 for the whole year with 10 classes. Most of the school requires TA form are sent before the class start; and it takes TA to pay the school later...maybe half way to the course. I like Ellis College because it is part of NYIT. All their Computer Science programs are not accredited by ABET; who cares...just work along the way with experience.

How long are the classes at troy U? 5-6-8 weeks? I like Ellis for the same reason you do -->NYIT, but granting them OPEN access to my checking account is a no-no. I have been burnt by Cell phone companies and the list goes on. No auto pays for me ANYMORE..

I do my TA stuff early so that is never a problem, it seems Ellis starts off Not trusting the student. The military pays, that is the bottom line, not I..

If the Ellis program is the one you really want to do, have you considered using the GI Bill Top-up program to pay the extra amount?

Also, have you contacted the school about the specifics of using your TA? The FAQ mentions TA so, hopefully, they have experience with it.

Have you considered opening up a second bank account for the sole purpose of putting money in for tuition payments?

Troy University has 10 weeks per term, and 5 terms per year. If you are going for Nursing, you should go to George Washington University.

Airhorn, the extra cash is not such a big problem. The problem is they want their course money two weeks before class starts and if they don't get it, they will take it from your bank account.

Every person that signs up for Ellis HAS to fill out the auto debit paperwork, EVERYONE. That is BS!

But I will write them about my concerns...

    Thanks for the info TEK..

BTW: The GWU program is in Emergency Health Science, not nursing. I believe the only 99.9% online RN program is at EXCELSIOR.

I am currently enrolled at Ellis and I love it! I am in the MBA program with the I/T speciality. I have just 3 classes left. The classes are 6 week long but a lot of writing. They use real world examples and the site is easy to use. I have also taken classes at UOP . Once I finish my MBA I am considering Nova or NCU for a Phd program. Ellis is expensive but my company pays for it.

They don't "Automatically" take the money from your account. Sometimes my financial aid dosn't post till 6 weeks after the class and they have never once hit my bank account. I was worried about the same thing and have never been hit yet. I sent them a question inquiring about the same thing when I started and was told they notify you with lots of options before that would even happen!

UOP required the same thing too. They never took any money from me.

They have my credit card but they have never touched it. My company pays the first $5250 and student loans pays the rest. I currently have a big balance which make me nervous (student loans are slow). I called their accounting department and was told that as long as they see that I have a alternate means of payment (student loan and corporate pay) they won't touch the credit card.

I just learned to deal with it.

I thought I was the only one who's account carried a large balance... Scared the daylights out of me at first...

Thanks for the replies on Ellis. I would probably give them a cc# and NOT my Checking account number.

That type of thing scares the life out of me.
