I've spent all day researching different DL degrees in org psych. Does anyone actually have a degree, or is anyone currently pursuing?

A little history - I'm about 1/2 way through a DL masters in School counseling from Concordia University Wisconsin. I've done some work in an elementary & a high school & decided I just won't be able to make the transition from the business world to the public ed world without loosing my mind. I want to switch to organizational psychology but CUW does not offer this degree.

So far I'm leaning towards NCU or U of London. KS State also has a program but it's a structured 3 year program that's $8300 a year. My employer pays up to $5000 a year so I need a less structured program.

What I like about CUW is that it's a traditional residential school that also offers a few DL degrees. I like that about KS State, too, but can't afford the $3.3K/year.

Any suggestions as to schools or programs I should condsider?

    Hello Paige,

I am not sure as to what schools you have chosen to look into, however, NCU could be a good choice and is Regionally Accredited.

If a nationally accredited degree would meet your current and future goals, I would also recommend looking into Calcoast's program. Cost would be very reasonable. Here is their Psych. program's link:

    http://www.calcoast.edu/programs_mspsych.php

Again, within the field you are seeking, a degree from a regionally accredited program will probably be the better choice, but it would depend on what you are seeking, state licensing criteria etc.

There are probably other inexpensive Psych. options, however, this one is on the top of my head.

    Good luck

Thank you so much for posting this information. I hadn't found Calcoast in my research - it certainly is reasonably priced!

I don't plan to work as a counselor - I want the org psych degree in place of an MBA. I may pursue an MBA after finishing the org psych - not sure.

With a $5K/yr tuition reimbursement benefit from my employer, I feel like it's a waste not to be in school & take at least $5K of classes a year. You would not BELIEVE how many people I work with don't take any courses - probably 99.9%! I only know two other people in my office currently in school. It's like throwing $5K/year away!

    Thanks again!

The Univerity of London External Programme and its MSc in Organizational Psychology is world class.

If you're looking to take your education internationally, the MSc from London would give you much more utility than NCU.

How the MSc would fare in the US I don't know, but up here in Canada it would win hands down over NCU.

I also found out about Walden University this week. Does anyone have info on this school that might help me make my decision?

I agree with you 100%. I get 4K for grad school per year and most people I work with do not take advantage of this "free money"...it makes me sad
