This link dates from 2000. Yes, both Southern California University for Professional Studies and Northcentral University were at one time under the same ownership (Don Hecht, I believe?), but Northcentral University has been accredited since 2003 and one of the conditions of getting accreditation were that Southern California University for Professional Studies and Northcentral University must be under separate ownership. If I recall correctly, Dr. Hecht sold Southern California University for Professional Studies.
That's funny...so, somebody stole that name? Northcentral University http://www.ncu.edu North Central University http://www.northcentral.edu http://www.northcentral.edu/accreditation/ It doesn't seem be accredited, but offers both distance and traditional classes.
They are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA-HLC), The Higher Learning Commission. http://www.chea.org/search/actionInst.asp?CheaID=692
Yes, the former North Central Bible College in Minnesota took the name North Central University www.northcentral.edu , so the then-unaccredited North Central University in Arizona had to change its name to Northcentral University www.ncu.edu in order to gain accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools www.ncacihe.org . By the way, a check of the NCA website does show that North Central University (the former North Central Bible College). That "Coming Soon" on North Central University's accreditation page meant that the page is coming soon, not that the accreditation is coming soon.
As a lawyer, I prefer to use the correct terms/words. According to the Thomson legal encyclopedia, a subsidary is : "Auxiliary; aiding or supporting in an inferior capacity or position. In the law of corporations, a corporation or company owned by another corporation that controls at least a majority of the shares. A subsidiary corporation or company is one in which another, generally larger, corporation, known as the parent corporation, owns all or at least a majority of the shares. As the owner of the subsidiary, the parent corporation may control the activities of the subsidiary". The mere fact that two entities were owned by one individual person does NOT create a parent corporation/subsidary situation.
North Central Association's accreditation pages are here: North Central University (Minnesota) www.ncahlc.org/index.php?option=com_directory&Action=ShowBasic&instid=1982 Northcentral University (Arizona) www.ncahlc.org/index.php?option=com_directory&Action=ShowBasic&instid=2162 North Central University (Minnesota) was founded in 1930, became a candidate for NCA accreditation in 1982, achieved NCA accreditation in 1986, and changed its name from North Central Bible College to North Central University in 1998. Northcentral University (Arizona) was founded in 1997, became a candidate for NCA accreditation in 2001, achieved NCA accreditation in 2003, and had to change its name from North Central University to Northcentral University as a condition of accreditation. When North Central Bible College changed its name to North Central University in 1998, they probably had no idea that there was this little (as of then) one-year-old unaccredited university in Arizona with business and psychology programs called North Central University (which, in all fairness, is probably not so little anymore and is most definitely accredited now).
