I have approx. 40-50 credits earned during the 80's and 90's from a local community college. Does anyone know if the big 3, specifically Excelsior, will accept them? I'm concerned about the age of the credits, I've heard they will not accept credits older than 10 years. Thanks
Hi Dean7777, It depends what subjects your credits are in. If they are technology types of credits, then Excelsior probably will not accept them. This is because technology evolves so fast that what you learned ten or twenty years ago may be extremely outdated nowadays. I don't think Exclesior puts a time frame on non-technology subjects though. I'm sure someone else will have a more detailed and specific response for you. Good luck, Beholdweb
Excelsior honored my transfer credits including some IT stuff that was 15 years old (SQL, Expert Systems, Lotus 123,etc). What matters more than age is how well the 'old stuff' lines up to the 'new stuff' from a course description perspective (which is how they estimate transferability). Greg
Charter Oak accepts credits regardless of age provided they're non-technical. When I matriculated in 2004 they accepted my Music credits from 1991-92. -=Steve=-

Fanblade, I too was worried about the age of the credits (I had over 50 unused graduate credits from the 80s-90s...) which Excelsior had no problem accepting (despite their warning). Give them a buzz and I think you may be pleasantly surprised. Greg
Good show. Actually, they took my MSCE on Windows NT 4.0 as 12 credit hours in 2004 as well, and by then that was getting pretty charitable. -=Steve=-
Good point, I also got credits for my MCSE NT and my A+. Technology people can easily earn ALOT of credits - upper and lower- with certs.
Nothing beats using them for half your Master's, though, like you can at Australia's Charles Sturt University. If I were still in IT, I'd do that in a heartbeat. -=Steve=-
Thank you, I really need to check out these schools. I am seeing some possiblities and I am now hopeful that all of what I worked for is not expired.
Excelsior Excelsior took my math and science credits from 1991. Pretty charitable I though, sice actually, much has changed in biology in the last 15 years. I have acquired more recent texts to study from both for brushing up on prereqs that I met 15 years ago and for studying for the Biology GRE.
