Hello everyone. First time poster here. I recently finished a Masters program in Computer Systems from CityU (Web Development emphasis) and now I'm already thinking about the next Masters I want to ad to my resume. Unfortunately, my current career is far from my CIS major so I don't get the opportunity to work with information systems on a daily basis. Now that I have a lot of free time on my hands I'm trying to decide to between an MBA (HRM possibly) from Northcentral or a MS in HRM from Troy University. Here are a couple of questions...Should I work toward an MBA in information systems instead to compliment my MS in CIS or open myself up for totaling different careers by going the MBA in HRM? Secondly, how does a MBA from NorthCentral U stack up against a MS in HRM from Troy U? I'm kind of leaning toward Troy simply because it's cheaper and I completed two master level courses in HRM with them a couple of years back leaving me with on 8 courses left under their 10-course option. However, I like NCU because it's at your own pace and will allow me to move a little quicker and because I have this perception that an MBA is a more "prestigious" and beneficial degree. Unfortunately, I will have to take 13 (12 plus 1 leveling) courses at NCU I'm in the military officer and will retire in 7 years. My career field is unrelated to CIS, HR, or business so I probably won't have a lot of hands on experience to place on my resume. Which masters option do you think I will benefit from the most in terms of pay and job opportunities? Your thoughts?

If I understand your opening comments correctly you have completed a Masters program and you are looking to start a second Masters.

I faced the same choice after completing my MA (http://www.leadership.uoguelph.ca/index.htm) at the University of Guelph. I decided to pursue a MBA at Columbia Southern University with a specialization in Project Management (http://www.columbiasouthern.edu). I chose this option because I was undecided about my future and where I wanted my educational journey to end up. Perhaps this is your situation. If I was to revisit this decision, and I will after graduation, then a DBA or PhD would have been a better choice.

Why do you want to pursue a MBA from NCU when you could pursue a DBA?

If you have no constrataints go for it.

That is my situation exactly. I'm living a "good life" right now but not sure of how I will be able to compete with others once I retire in 7 years from the military. I won't have any real CIS experience at all to compliment my current MS. So I thought I'd better get a second masters for a lil peace of mind. Just trying to make myself as marketable as possible so I can earn a pretty good living similar to what I have now.

    I forgot to add...

Turtle thanks for your input. Actually, the DBA never crossed my mind. I'm now curious to know if they will allow me into a DBA program without having a Business degree on the undergrad or grad levels. I'll look into it.

Have you considered something like the Doctor of Management in Information Technology at either University of Maryland University College www.umuc.edu or the University of Phoenix http://online.uophx.edu or maybe the PhD in Electronic Commerce at Northcentral University www.ncu.edu ?
