Hi there, Can anyone tell me if there's a difference in difficulty between Exelsior or Clep. See, I'm studying for an Exelsior for the first time and up to now I went through Clep and Dantes exams. This one is Adult Development and the exam is much more expensive, so I wonder if it's more difficult or harder. I just have no idea what to expect and if I should really study much harder or what. Anyone experienced in these exams? Thank you
CLEP is cheapest and accepted at the most institutions. DANTES is a little more expensive and and accepted at fewer places. Excelsior ECEs and TECEPs are the most expensive and accepted at the fewest places. Yes, this is strange. -=Steve=-
Yes, that is true. But... All CLEPS are lower level credit. Ninety minute time limit. Most DANTES are lower level, with many exams recommended and accepted at Upper level. Average about ninety questions. Recommended time limit ninety minutes but usually test centers allow all the time you need. And ECE's are a mix too. But many are upper level, maybe the majority. ECE's are three hour exams, maybe 160 questions. Depends on what your needs are and what your individual institution accepts. Did you spend some quality time with Lawrie's BAin4weeks? Highly recommended. Here's the deal. All of these exams have some relevance. Of course, an upper level exam will be a bit deeper than a lower level exam. I took the leap and took my first ECE, sat in front of the 160 questions that scared the hell out of me. I started, skipped a couple questions, blazed through about twenty that I knew, found that I did know the answers, kept going, and got out in about 2 3/4 hours with my A. Full speed ahead!!! Are you eighteen and live at home? Are you thirty and have had a few jobs, bought a couple cars and a house? I could barely read the dantes finance exam when I was eighteen. I could ace it at thirty because of the "experience". So, if you don't have the practical experience, you need to get some reading material, videos, or web searching to learn what you need to show proficiency in these exams. Remember, the information provided by the individual testing groups are your friends. Fact sheets by DANTES. The content guide by Excelsior. Half.com for cheap books. Build a library, share with a friend, help somebody else after you prove to yourself it can be done. Good luck.
gsmckee, You're right: the lower/upper division distinction is an important point that I, well, just plain forgot. When I was doing my undergrad I didn't need to test out of upper division stuff, so I guess it slipped my mind. Glad you were here to cover for me! -=Steve=-
Thanks Thanks for the info and if you have more, let me know. I'm scared and curious at the same time now. I'm 30 though, so that gives me courage!!! I've aced all the others so far (clep and Dantes) but this Exelsior just seems harder somehow and I guess I really need to dig in the details, right? Then again, it's not bad to have 160 questions, maybe that's even better to give you more chances, I don't know really. I still have to continue studying the subject... Take care friends!!!!!!
So, xygirl, you have the content guide for the Excelsior exam? Yes? And you see how they layout the exam? Those twentyish sample questions were very helpful to me. And don't forget to read ALL of the answers for each question. Sure, they offer the correct answer for each sample question, but (HINT) each "wrong" answer is actually a concise description or mini-lecture for the other choices. Remember, the content guide is your friend. Take your time and let it sink in. You can do it. Good luck.
fact sheet Thank you for that info too, So, does this mean that I can skip things in the book that are not on the fact sheet? Sometimes I 'm scared to skip things...... Have you taken this exam on adult develepment (EXE)? I wonder where to focus on..... I guess just stick to many details.... Thanks a lot gmskee Have a nice day
