This school is getting hotter on my list as my Graduation approaches!

    http://ellis.nyit.edu/

Where I am going: BS/BA in Behavioral Sciences (PSYCH)

I spoke with them this evening.

Here is what I found out:

They accept TECEP exams for credit in addition to "most other credit or Clep type exams"

Very liberal policy on incoming credits. (Military, some professional certifications/licences and so on...)

Transcript is given by and from the NYIT, degree says NYIT. No reference to DL..

They have been a "division" of/with NYIT for 4 years.

All books can be purchased "elsewhere" Like Amazon and so on. No inhouse, you have to buy our books here BS.

Graduate with B&M and DL NYIT graduates AT the NYIT regular ceremony.

Courses are 6 weeks long. They are OPEN enrollment. They start the classes every three weeks. You can finish early and move on!

Some proctored testing most online if any. Some do not have finals or Midterms. Kind of like UOP I guess? I was glad!

90 incoming credits(max)can be applied before you start a program, NICE..

I am sure that I am forgetting something though...

Oh, it's NOT a SOC (Servicemans Opportunity College) college.
But the GREAT thing is they give all military 20% off of tuition. Which means that there "should" be no out of pocket expense for tuition.

Does anyone else have some info on this college BEFORE I send them my 85 smackers for the audit... PLEASE!!

    Thanks folks!:p

It is a SOC College, the admission person did not know this though. Hummm

I just found it on their site.

I'm going here for my Master's. Great school, pricey, but great school. Be prepared because the coursework is no walk in the park. I'm not sure whether you will have the same experience for your Bachelor's but the Master's program is very demanding!

Well, the strange thing is the admission person is calling me several times in a 3 hour period, SCARY!

I am doing military stuff right now, so I had to email her and say STOP CALLING!!!! Commission??

I must say they were rather pushy for me too at first. They will call and call and call. Who is your rep? Maybe I can give ya a different rep number from the rep I had, she is a bit better.

I looked...nice. However, as soon as I saw the tuition I had to say: "Uh, no."

Most of us were sent there from employee recommendations and employee reimbursment. Most of my classmates are GM employees as GM has a special agreement with them to get their employees educated. My supervisor recommended them and is paying for most of the cost so I can't complain. Also, NYiT is a highly respected school so I couldnt pass it up.

I almost applied there, but I decided not to because of the tuition even with the military discount. Too pricey even with Tuition assistance and GI Bill.

My employer reimburses $2,500 a year for tuition, but despite the prestige of the NYIT degree, I have to be more conservative in regard to overall cost.

    Horric,

My contact at ELLIS is Andrea Santos. VERY nice person but a bit too clingy.

Louie: Tuition Assistance AND the GI Bill should more than enough to cover the tuition of this school. TA is 250.00 per SH and the GI Bill covers the rest. FULL TIME that is :>

Since I do not have the GI Bill I will be paying around $300.00+ per class after my TA kicks in..

I can see how it would be difficult at $2,500 a year. I recieve 75% coverage from my employer... If I recieved less than that I would probably look at cheaper schools!

    Ellis - interesting

Ellis looks interesting...I didn't see any mention of tuition - how much is it? Noticed it's a joint venture between UNEXT and NYIT. I'm not so sure the blending of the corporate and the collegiate is in the best interest of the student...At least the degree is NYIT and has the backing of that institution. I grow increasingly worried about for-profit schools and the way they devalue the MBA, despite the fact that many have regional accreditation.

I'm paying an arm and a leg for my Penn State MBA program right now, but it is AACSB accredited, and since I'd eventually like to teach, I think it's worth it. I also love the cohort I'm with - you have to wonder about the quality of group interaction you'll have in a school that seems to cost too little....

    Just a couple of thoughts.

    Tuition: Military or Non.

Military gets a 20% discount, so for a 3 credit class it is around 1060 and change. I get 750 for a 3 credit class from Army TA so I will be paying some out of pocket cash.

The degree is NYIT as is the transcript. On the official transcript they make no mention of DL which is fine w/me.

I personally don't think any school should mention "in-class" or "DL" as a method. They brag it is all the same schooling so there ya have it.

You don't use the GI Bill to cover the rest?

I would use it IF I had paid into it... BUT I was i dope and went for the cash, thus that option is not available to me.

    NYIT

I just want everyone to know that I am in NYC, I was born and raised here, and just so you guys now this school is highly regarded in New York and the east coast. I am not sure of their reputation nationwide, but its pretty solid here. You will not go wrong with a degree from NYIT.
