It just keeps getting better!

In the "taking the plunge" thread I described my plan to re-start my college degree process which had begun in 1979. My choice is to earn an Associate's degree via DL from St. Petersburg College. Then I'll move on to my Bachelor's.

I have had copies of my transcript from Hillsborough Community College sent to SPC, and had a copy sent to myself. I thought I had earned 20-some-odd credits, but as it turns out I had amassed 36 credits, so that was a pleasant surprise. Hopefully the bulk of those will transfer.

Additionally, it has come to my attention that SPC now offers possible credit for experiential learning. How great is that? I'd love to be able to pick up a few credits for my many years in management.

    Here's a link:

I've contacted SPC about the experiential learning process and await word back from them about how I can apply it.

St Petersburg is RA so that's a plus.

Their program to give credit for experiential learning is a plus.

Finally, their (pending) acceptance of the Hillsborough credits is a plus.

The fact that you have 36 credits from Hillsborough when you thought you had 20 something credits just shows that the human memory doesn't work like computer memory.

The very best to you in your educational pursuits.

Thanks. It looks to me like I'm on the right path, for certain. I learned today that my employer will reimburse for CLEP as well, so if I have an opportunity to take that route for credit, I will most certainly use it. Of course I would have even if there wasn't reimbursement, but that makes it even better.

Be sure to talk with SPC's registrar's office about the total amount of transfer credit that they will accept and any deadlines for getting your official documents in. No matter what the admissions office tells you, get confirmation from the registrar's office, ideally by email, so that you have a written record.

In general, one must complete the last 25% of one's studies at the presumptive alma mater, and one's official transcripts and CLEP reports are typically due within the first semester of enrollment.

No point taking more CLEP tests than you can use, unless you like taking CLEP tests. ;)

Thanks. I already checked it out, the information is posted on the SPC Web site. It is listed here:

    under "Credit from Non-Traditional Sources".
